Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

You do indeed need a passport to travel to Mexico. Passports take a few months minimally to go through so I wouldn't wait to get one. If you need assistance with this process please let us know.

Question

Do I need any specific vaccinations?

Answer

As of January 2023 (we will update if this changes), Mexico is open to travelers and you do not need to provide a negative covid test or proof of vaccination to enter. The CDC and the WHO do have a list of recommended vaccines, most of these are part of your routine vaccine schedule. We go to Mexico every year and have never gotten additional vaccines, but you should do what gives you peace. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/mexico

Question

Is there a tax I need to pay to enter Cancun?

Answer

Yes, as of 2021 there is now a Visitor Tax/Tourism Tax. Anyone 15 and older will need to pay this tax. You can do it ahead of time online or at the airport (lines may be longer if you choose to pay at the airport). To pay online you can go to the Visitax website and pay for everyone traveling in your group. https://visitaxmex.com/?gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9fqnBhDSARIsAHlcQYSG1J3d8d6NgOFR43QWXQKLyuRWi_rXkO_aMlv2Y7G2SfWOunNlJiEaAiipEALw_wcB Step 1: Conveniently and securely pay with your visa, mastercard, or American Express Step 2: You can pay for up to 10 passengers in a single transaction Step 3: Receive your official government VisiTAX code via email Step 4: Keep your VisiTax Code "ready" to show up on request by Government Agents I'm going to do ours sometime this week (9/11-9/15) so if there are any additional notes I will add them here.

Question

Is there any specific doumentation I need to travel to Mexico?

Answer

If you have a regular passport issued by the United States, you do not need a visa to visit Mexico for tourism, but you do need a Tourist Card. Every time we've been to Mexico we filled out the form on the plane, but I just read a review saying some airlines are no longer handing these out. You have a few options: Get one on your plane (maybe), fill one out when you get off the plane, or do it online ahead of time. If you choose the online option- it can only be done within 30 days of travel. https://www.mexicotouristcard.com/ ALL foreign citizens traveling to Mexico MUST fill out an Official Entry Immigration Form (FMM) prior to their arrival to Mexico. To ease the immigration entry process now you can fill out the Immigration Form(s) in the comfort of your home or office. The online registration process is FREE, very convenient, straightforward, and all you need is your passport, flight information, address or name of the hotel where you are staying, and a printer to print your Official Entry Tourist Card. THE TOURIST CARD IS PER PERSON INCLUDING CHILDREN.

Question

Is my tiny baby dumpling invited to the wedding?

Answer

You are our family and that includes your little dumplings. Yes, children are invited. I would be a little disappointed if a baby was screaming during the vows so maybe get them milk drunk or give them candy for the 20 minutes of actual wedding. I can also coordinate child care through the hotel if that is something you would prefer.

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

Yup, I am not particularly good at addressing envelopes and I probably didn't make that clear enough. We understand a destination wedding is a big ask so don't hesitate to make it a family vacation. Please let us know when you RSVP how many children and adults will be attending.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Beach Semi-Formal I had to google this because I have no idea what "Beach Semi- Formal" means in a tangible sense. David isn't wearing a tie, but he is wearing a suit jacket if that helps at all. He is reluctantly wearing shoes because the wedding isn't directly on the sand. Maybe don't wear shorts or a wedding dress, there is a middle ground i'm confident you can find. We are thrilled that you're attending our wedding, wear whatever you want.

Question

Help! I'm lost and I can't find anyone? How do we communicate with each other?

Answer

Download and join our WhatsApp Community! WhatsApp utilizes wi-fi and will give us all the opportunity to chat and share our location. When in doubt we are at the swim up bar or beach :) We can also share our room numbers and other information once we arrive. I'll include a QR somewhere on this page once I figure out how. To use the QR code you'll need to open the app and then take a picture with the WhatsApp camera

Question

Do I need an adapter for electrical outlets?

Answer

The hotel has Standard US electrical plugs, no need for an adapter

Question

What shouldn't I forget to pack?

Answer

Passport (duh), more sunscreen than you think you would ever need, rain jacket/umbrella (It frequently rains in Mexico in October, i'll add the projected weather when we get close to the date), important medications, and the rest is pretty standard.

Question

What medications are not allowed in Mexico?

Answer

As with any country, some drugs and medications are prohibited from being brought into Mexico. These items can include controlled substances such as narcotics and prescription medications. You must show proof of your prescription when bringing your prescribed medication into Mexico. That means keeping it in its original bottle or having a note from your doctor. This includes items containing cannabis or any of its derivatives. Examples of medications and drugs not allowed into Mexico include: Stimulants, including those containing pseudoephedrine such as Actifed, Sudafed, and Vicks Inhalers- This might include some allergy medications Cannabis and any form of its derivatives Narcotics Any medication containing codeine Some medications prescribed for anxiety Cocaine or any products containing cocaine Poppy seeds, opium, and heroin
