Things To Do

These are places we love to visit, eat, and enjoy. We hope you get to take some time and see some of the places that made us fall in love with Connecticut!

Mohegan Sun

1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Montville, CT 06382
, (888) 226-7711

They have the usual casino finds in a beautiful setting that showcases the Mohegan tribe's culture. This casino focuses more on entertainment. There is the arena where you could see concerts or one of the two professional sports teams that call Mohegan home. There is the smaller theater where they hold shows and events. The Wolf Den has free concerts that are first come first serve for seats. There is nightly comedy at the Comix comedy club. If you are looking for a buffet to eat at there is the HUGE Seasons buffet as well as many other good restaurants. This is also where you will find our only Chic-fil-a.

Foxwoods Resort and Casino (Connecticut)

Ledyard, CT 06338

This casino has a lot going on and is the flashy casino of the two in the area. If you like to play bingo this is a great place to go. Here there is a Tanger Outlet mall attached to the casino, night life, food, Stoney Creek Brewery. If you are at all a fan of Food Network Guy Fierri has a restaurant here. This casino has been appropriately nicknamed the Emerald City because as you drive up to it at night you go from the back roads of Connecticut to seeing this giant building that has emerald green lights illuminating it at night.

Connecticut State Capitol

210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106
, (860) 240-0100

Come by the legislative Office building and have the League of Women Voters take you on a tour of one of the prettiest buildings in Connecticut. It is also where Brittney works, so if you let her know you are coming she will make sure to be there to say hi and tag along if she can. The week prior to the wedding is a BUSY week at the capitol so you can see the legislative process in full swing!

Newport Mansions Preservation Society

424 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840
, (401) 847-1000

The beauty of the gilded age has been preserved in Newport, RI. The Vanderbilt family Rockefeller family and more have beautiful "summer cottages" that have been turned into museums that you can tour. The properties are BEAUTIFUL! The stories that you will hear and lifestyle that you get to see is amazing. The gardens might be in bloom and the weather should be nice. This is one of my favorite activities in New England. The three mansions that are "must see" sights are the Breakers, Elms, and the Marble House.

Vivian's Mediterranean Market

45 Williams Avenue, Stonington, CT 06355
, (860) 415-4656

AMAZING food! We love the Chicken Schwarma Wrap with Garlic sauce.

Paul's Pasta Shop

223 Thames Street, Groton, CT 06340
, (860) 445-5276

Casual dining and amazing homemade pasta!

Maugle Sierra Vineyards

825 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard, CT 06339
, (860) 464-2987

Go and enjoy a relaxing time sitting at the vineyard. You can do a tasting or relax and socialize. Stop by the grocery store and pick up some fruit, cheese, and crackers. This place is bring your own food. It is a quiet little spot to enjoy where I have lived for 6 years.

Olde Mistick Village

27 Coogan Boulevard, Stonington, CT 06355
, (860) 536-4941

Shopping at the cute stores, good food, and the duck pond. There is a tavern here that we enjoy sitting at and relaxing called the Jealous Monk.

Mystic Aquarium

55 Coogan Boulevard, Stonington, CT 06355
, (860) 572-5955

Located next door to Old Mystick Village There you can see the sea lion show, pet some sharks and sting-rays, penguins, belugas, and more. One of my favorite things to do is feed the birds. I am not sure when they bring the birds out into the enclosure, so they might not be there. If they are I enjoy spending the $3 to go in and feed them and see if I can get one to climb into the feeding stick.

Mystic Drawbridge

East Main Street, Stonington, CT 06355

Take a walk through downtown Mystic! There is the historic drawbridge that is a sight to see go up as it has a huge cement rock that is used as its counter weight. The shopping down there is full of unique shops. Being right on the river you can sit and enjoy the views. In college i did my homework by the river and got sunburned so bring sunscreen! This is the location for the iconic Mystic Pizza and if you would like you can eat there, but I can suggest better pizza places. Although I can understand wanting to say you have done it.

Niantic Boardwalk

30 Main Street, East Lyme, CT 06357

Walk around main street and have a bite to eat. The shops here are adorable and the views of the sound are stunning. It is a fun place to explore coastal Connecticut!

The Book Barn

41 West Main Street, East Lyme, CT 06357
, (860) 739-5715

This is one of 4 or 5 locations in Niantic. They outgrew their Main Barn location and have had to split up based on the type of books you like. Head to the main barn to see what it is like there then head to the specific location for what you might want.

U.S.S. Nautilus & Museum

1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton, CT 06340
, (860) 694-3174

This is where we started our first date! It is fun to see the inside of a real submarine and the history that it has!

Devils Hopyard Field

East Haddam, CT 06423
, (203) 434-8022

Take some time to go for a gentle hike and see the waterfall or go here for a nice picnic. This is a relaxing place that is set into the woods of Connecticut. Just as a warning, it is not the time of year for swimming here since the snow and ice recently melted the water is very cold! It isn't until autumn that our water actually warms up and sadly by then it is too chilly outside to go for a swim.

Bluff Point State Park

55 Depot Road, Groton, CT 06340

This is a beautiful place to hike. It is not a hard walk, but a nice walking trail with a beach and view about half way!

Wilcox Park

44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI 02891
, (401) 596-2877

This historic Victorian strolling garden is a beautiful place to take a small walk and relax. This is the place where we went for a walk on Christmas day. It is kinda like a very small Central Park.
