COVID-19 Update

Maybe one day we will look back and laugh at this

When planning and preparing for a wedding I would think about things that could go wrong to try and anticipate them as best as possible. It has allowed me to not stress too much and been laughing when talking to people about the wedding because somehow a global pandemic did not make my list of things that could go wrong. In my case and MANY other brides it should have been on that list. While the original plan was to have a beautiful chapel wedding and a reception at the Coast Guard Academy that was first placed "up in the air with a high chance of cancellation" and then April 4th we got the call that it was officially cancelled. We were okay with that because of the public health concerns regarding the virus. Our guests health and safety is important to us too. Then it was time to form Plan B. That is easier said than done. There are a lot of things to take into consideration and each one of those were followed with multiple questions. Who? How many? Where? Will it be open or available? Is this okay and am I comfortable with this choice? I did not want to be like the impulsive stories I was seeing on the news of people getting married on the sidewalk outside the officiant's apartment building while they yell out their window to the couple below (yes, that was a story I saw). It was important to us that we made the right decision for us and our life. If I have learned anything through the wedding process it is that you cannot make everyone happy so making sure that Ryan and I are happy is what we are focusing on. We love all of our friends and family. The support of everyone has been incredible and we cannot thank you all enough. More Details will be posted soon right here on our website. We wish you all health (mental & physical), safety, love and happiness in these crazy times (insert Michael Bublé song here). With much love, Ryan & Brittney

How We Met

Just saying "Hi"

We started talking online. We were intrigued by one another and quickly found ourselves staying up late talking, despite our early mornings and busy schedules.

First Date

A Great 12 Hours

Our First date was September 9th, 2018. Ryan drove from Portsmouth, NH to Groton, CT to take Brittney on a date. The day started at the Nautilus Submarine Museum. "Have you ever gone on a submarine with a submariner?" Not wanting to say goodbye, we went on to do multiple different activities like bowling, walking around a few places, and going out for hibachi dinner. We spent hours sitting at the Nautilus park overlook talking. After a wonderful 12 hour date Ryan drove back to Portsmouth.

What Makes You Stronger

"Thank you, whatever comes"

Ryan, being in the Navy, deployed soon into dating. Our already long distance relationship got a little bit harder by taking away communication... almost. We were able to email and do our best to keep in touch. Distance truly does make the heart fonder as we never doubted if we could withstand the deployment. It was a very happy reunion as Brittney was standing on the pier waiting for him when he came home.

Traveling

"Not all who wander are lost"

We went on a two week trip to Colorado and West Virginia. In Colorado, Ryan showed off where he spent his teenage years. There was a lot of eating. We ate burritos, Asian BBQ, pizza, Culver's (burgers), and more. Brittney's highlight was being taken to Horsetooth Reservoir to see the stars. While Ryan was deployed she mentioned in an email that she wanted to see stars with minimal light pollution. This was the place to do it! We got there to see the sunset and watch as the stars slowly appeared. We had a lot of fun catching up with Ryan's friends and seeing how much his town had changed from when he lived there. In West Virginia we stayed with Ryan's parents. Our days were spent out adventuring through historical sites like Harper's Ferry and the Battlefields of Bull run. Brittney had a lot of fun learning how to cook different recipes that Ryan's mom makes, so she could add them to her repertoire. We found some beautiful places we plan to go back and hike one day, both in Colorado and West Virginia.

A Special Question

Spoiler Alert: She said "Yes"

After returning from our trip we decided to go run a few errands and then head to the Nautilus Park Overlook. Returning to where we spent much of our first date and reminiscing about it. Ryan asked Brittney if she would spend the rest of her life with him. She said "Yes!"
