We met through mutual friends about a year or so into Nick starting college at ASU. Despite me making an embarrassing first impression, (as I usually do), we quickly became close friends. As our friendship blossomed, it wasn't long before we'd become nearly inseparable, leaving the rest of our friend group highly suspicious. Then finally, after friend-zoning each other for a solid year or two, our buddy-buddy relationship morphed into something much, much greater than either of us had ever thought possible.
Knowing that I've never been one for grand gestures, Nick decided to keep things intimate by popping the question on Christmas morning with our puppy Winston as our only witness. Like most of our generation, Nick and I are avid watchers of The Office. I wanted a tea kettle for Christmas. Nick saw an opportunity. The last gift I opened that morning was, (surprise surprise), a tea kettle. But not just any tea kettle, a tea kettle with bonus gifts. Inside was a note, some photos, a ring pop, (Nick always joked that he would propose with a ring pop), and my grandmothers antique diamond ring. Next thing I knew, Nick was down on one knee saying what I can only assume was a sappy speech of our lives together up until that moment, (this part's a bit blurry for obvious reasons), and I'm crying. Oh yeah, and then I said YES.
