Wedding traditions in the Philippines became heavily influenced by Catholicism dotted with superstitions. They also reflect the strong traditions of family (& extended family). Thus, wedding ceremonies typically involve many people. Principal Sponsors: They are sponsors of the couple attesting to their readiness for marriage. Their participation is symbolic of the wisdom & support they shall offer the new couple. They will present the wedding coins, which symbolize the couple's commitment to mutually contributing to their relationship. Veil Sponsors – They will place a veil over the shoulders of the couple to symbolize their union and being "clothed as one.” Cord Sponsors – They will place a cord over the heads of the couple, to symbolize that they are no longer two but one in their life together. Candle Sponsors – They will light the candles that symbolize the Light of Christ, the same light they received at Baptism and now receive again to lead them in their new life.
Formal attire please. Also, don't forget a shawl or jacket in case of a cool Autumn evening.
