We’re Getting Married!

Our story began when a mutual friend sent Kodie’s Snapchat to Jake. Much to Jake’s dismay, Kodie ignored the first message he sent her. However, after the second message, Kodie responded, and this led to the initial Facetime that lasted over two hours. During that call, we knew that this was a different connection and agreed that we would give a long-distance relationship a chance. This led to Kodie’s many trips back to North Carolina to visit Jake where she became a diehard Duke basketball fan, even if this was mainly due to Grayson Allen, and where we explored the East Coast together, which included trips to New Orleans, Charleston, and the Outer Banks. During the pandemic, the two of us decided to move in together, and we moved to Madison, Wisconsin for Jake’s first year of law school. We learned some valuable lessons during this first year. We discovered that Jake could not be tasked with doing laundry by himself, Kodie did not cook meat, and we did not have coats that could withstand the Midwest winters. After these early trials and tribulations, we added more chaos to our lives and got our dog Finn. This led to additional learning lessons such as housetraining and the need to take everything off our coffee table. We then decided to move back West and headed to Los Angeles for two years as Jake finished law school at UCLA and Kodie became a certified Pilates instructor. These two years were filled with adventures in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Hollywood where Finn was always the star of the show wherever we went. Finally, we settled down in Sacramento where Finn learned to adjust to 100-degree days during the summer and Kodie became obsessed with finding the best coffee shop in Sacramento. Jake finally summoned the courage to get down on a knee on May 4, 2024. After waiting all day for the rain to clear, he got down on one knee on Carmel Beach below the 10th hole at Pebble Beach. Kodie momentarily blacked out, but when she came to, she immediately said yes!
