It all started on what was maybe a Sunday afternoon in Fall of 2019. Will came across a picture of Caroline confidently driving a boat on the dating app Hinge. He thought, "I like boats,” and sent her a message asking how often she boated. Her answer: "almost every weekend in the summer!" And a spark ignited. Hinge's matching algorithm remains a mystery: both had the app limited to matches within 20 miles, but with Will in Winston-Salem and Caroline in Raleigh, they were nearly 200 miles apart! Nevertheless, an initial spark had them intrigued. After 6 weeks of chatting, a first date was finally planned. They met in the most romantic of centrally located destinations: Mebane, NC. Red Oak's brewery (which really is quite beautiful!) served as the meeting point that fateful eve. Fast forward 4 months - things were going great. They'd enjoyed meeting each others' parents and their lives were beginning to intertwine. Just as their relationship accelerated, a global pandemic brought life to a screeching halt. As Raleigh shut down, Caroline decided to work from her family's house in Topsail Beach for what she was confident would be "two weeks, max" to enjoy the spring weather and empty beaches. After a month of lonely Netflix and crafts, she really missed Will and started an increasingly insistent campaign to get him to Topsail. Upon an eerily empty I-40, Will set out to see his gal for what was planned as a week's visit. One week turned into several months, with Will essentially moving in with the Suttons, and eventually Caroline with the Voglers on alternating weeks. These trips brought the couple closer, paving the way for love to blossom and ultimately to another important trip as life returned to normal… In August 2021, Will surprised Caroline with a weekend at the Wentworth Mansion in Charleston, SC. He proposed at sunset on a rooftop deck overlooking the city, bringing us to this exciting chapter of the story. It’s only just begun!
