Travel Note
We really appreciate the extra effort involved in joining us for our wedding in Italy and hope to be as helpful as possible. Please contact us if you have any difficulty. Alternatively, if you have any problems, feel free to call Viticcio at +39 055 854210 or +39 366 5662937. Venue address: Viticcio Winery, Via San Cresci, 12/A 50022 Greve in Chianti, Florence – Italy NB: in GPS maps the route needs to go through ‘Via di Colognole, 12 ' and not ‘Via San Cresci’ which can take you to a no through road, this is shown in the map in your invite (take the green route). Once you have reached the winery there will be no further travel arrangements as all events will be held here.
Flight
The following UK airlines serve Pisa Airport: Ryanair - flying from East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Prestwick (near Glasgow) & London Stansted Jet2 – flying from East Midlands, Leeds, Manchester & Newcastle Easyjet – flying from Bristol, Gatwtick, Luton and Manchester British airways – flying from Gatwick and Heathrow We have found that the best time to book the cheapest flights is around early November, having always got our flights for £50-90 return each plus bag. We will be keeping an eye out and letting you know if we spot some cheap seats! Other possible airports to fly into – Bologna, Perugia, Rome.
Rental Car
We have used Sicily by Car (http://www.sbc.it/) who we had no problems with. To reach the car hire bays exit the airport and facing away from the airport walk to your right all away along the airport building. Either take the bus waiting across the zebra crossing, or follow the path painted on the floor for a 5 min walk. The drive from the airport to the winery takes approximately 1 hr 30 minutes, first driving towards Florence and then when close to Florence taking the exit towards Rome. For a week hire we paid ~ £80 in car hire, £20 for insurance & £40 in petrol (we drove around a lot!). PARKING: There is space for 20 cars at the winery, please let us know if you plan on hiring a car just so we can make sure there will be no problems.
Train
The Pisa Mover is a shuttle train which takes you from the airport and to Pisa Centrale station in 5 minutes for 2,70 euros for a single, trip from here you can get a train to Florence Santa Maria Novella, costing ~ 10 euros for a single and takes 50-80 minutes. From the Florence train terminal you will need to reach the bus terminal by foot, approximately 10 minutes walk. Here you can buy your bus ticket to Greve in Chianti which takes ~45 mins and costs 4 euros 50 for a single trip. Alight the bus as soon as you reach Greve in Chianti and Viticcio is ~ 15 minutes walk from here NB there is an uphill chunk! And don’t forget to validate your train/bus tickets before your journey – for the train there are machines on the platforms and for the bus the machine is on the bus.
