We had the same history class at Oakmont High School, while Violet was the quiet girl in class, Dawson was the outspoken student who seemed to know all the answers. One raised his hand all the time while the other hoped to not get called on. Later on, we got each others social media accounts and connected there. Our first official date was on Valentines Day 2020 and the rest is history.
In San Diego on family vacation, where we had gone on our first solo trip together years before on Valentines Day, we met up with Dawsons family. Jen, Bryan, and Kailynn had been in San Diego for a week before us, and had known of Dawsons plan to propose so they decided to stay an extra day to be there. We visited his great grandmother and got to look through family photo books where we saw pictures of his grandparents proposal. Coincidentally they were also wearing matching blue. We had Panda Express for lunch, and one of the fortunes that was opened said “a tempting proposal will soon present itself”. Dawson kept this in his pocket away from my sight, and the whole family was giggling knowing what was to come later. We went to Coronado Island back to the hotel right on the beach, and decided to take a solo walk before our time was consumed with family. While we were walking around the shops, we accidentally ran into my (Violet’s) family who had claimed they were running late and wouldn’t be there until much later on. We hugged and they told us to go find a place to eat dinner while they settled in. So we walked some more, all while our families secretly set up our proposal spot. Finally we walked back after visiting the juice shop we had been to years before, and walked right on the beach. Dawson led me through the sand and then took the fortune out of his pocket to show me. He said, “ At lunch earlier we got a fortune that was so funny because it is exactly what I am trying to do today”. Immediately I understood and we both starting crying before we even go to the set up! We walked over to a sandy hill out-looking the ocean with a blanket set up, candles around it, roses in the sand, rose petals, wine & wine glasses, the words “marry me” in block letters lit up with string lights, and a beautiful bouquet for me. Dawson told me how after our first date, he called his best man Austin to tell him that I was the one he wanted to marry. He expressed some more of his love for me and then asked me to marry him. Mind you, both of us were crying with every word. I said yes of course, and our family cheered us on from behind the hill where they were hidden. It was the best night of my life.
