Yumi Tran

and

Vinh Nguyen

March 7, 2026

Montgomery, TX

Our Story

We met at UT Austin. Y: When I first met Vinh, I thought he was a dork. I confirmed this after our disastrous first date. Luckily, I was into nerds back then (and now, too, I guess). I remember leaving our date thinking, “Well I’m NOT gonna see him ever again lmao.” But Vinh was very persistent and kept taking me on super cute dates, driving me everywhere I wanted to go. Eventually I conceded and asked him to be my boyfriend on December 18, 2019 <3. V: I can’t quite pinpoint when I decided I wanted to marry Yumi, but it was definitely earlier on than her. A year or two after we graduated from UT, Yumi and I moved to her mom’s house in Houston. Y: Vinh got an offer from Lockheed and Martin in Fort Worth by the way, but I famously said “Well I’m not moving to Dallas so you can have a job or you can have a girlfriend.” V: So anyways I was unemployed in Houston for a few months. While I didn’t have anything else to do, I was working on her mom’s house with her, and I thought a lot about building a future together with Yumi. It solidified for me that I really liked working on things with her and I realized we were a really good team and really good partners. So yeah, about two years after I wanted to get married but I only really felt comfortable to propose early last year after I’d gotten a job, bought our house, and made it livable. Y: And the rest is history!! I always tell my students they should wait like 5 years before getting married because you have to be sure that that person’s the one. Practicing what I preached, I told Vinh on our 5th anniversary that I wanted to get married :) We got engaged on March 13. Vinh’s favorite thing about Yumi is her ability to be on top of things and manage everything. Her favorite thing about Vinh is watching him do things like eat and yell at the TV every time Jordan Love appears.
