FAQs

Question

What should I wear in Scotland in the Fall?

Answer

Weather reality check (and what to pack) Late October / early November in this part of Scotland is typically cool, breezy, and changeable. You can expect average daytime temperatures of around 50–55°F (10–13°C), with evenings dropping to around 40°F (4–6°C). Pack with layers in mind: a proper waterproof jacket (not just “water resistant”) warm layers (knit / fleece / thermal) comfortable shoes you don’t mind getting a bit wet something wind-friendly (St Andrews gets proper coastal wind) a small umbrella, but don’t rely on it (wind wins)

Question

Can I use a regular plug from the US in Scotland?

Answer

No you cannot! The UK uses Type G plugs (three rectangular pins) and 230V. Please bring a UK adapter if you’re traveling from the US. Voltage is different so be sure to check for voltage and bring a voltage adapter specifically if you need to use high voltage electronics (e.g. hair dryer, curling iron, etc.).

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes - there will be parking available onsite.

Question

What is the tipping culture in Scotland?

Answer

Tipping here is appreciated but not compulsory. Restaurants: if a service charge (often 10–15%) is included on the bill, you don’t need to add more. If not included, 10–15% is typical for good service. Taxis: people often round up or add a small tip for good service.
