We wanted our wedding to feel like a trip, not just an event. Wickenburg is this funky western town about an hour from Phoenix and it's a sweet little hideaway. Join us Friday night for a cowboy cookout under the stars. We're getting married Saturday afternoon, then having brunch Sunday before everyone heads out. There's a lot to do out here if you want to make a long weekend of it: trail rides, a ghost town, great food, pool time, desert hikes. We set up a handful of lodging options at different price points on the Travel page, so pick whatever works for you and come hang!
Victoria saw his photo and thought, that might be my guy... Lauren had sent it over thinking they'd hit it off, and Victoria agreed to a date. She wasn't really someone who put herself out there or put much effort into dating around. She kind of just believed love would find her. A week later she was getting ready and called a friend, already going on about how 2/24/22 would be such a cute anniversary. Her friend told her to just get through the date first. They met for coffee at a bookstore in Phoenix. The first date was good. She was nervous and asked him too many personal questions, and he gently let her know he didn't really get into that stuff with people he just met. She liked him anyway and wanted him to smooch her at the end of the night. He was moving to Alaska. She told herself to protect her heart and even told him he should probably go find some cool outdoorsy girl up there. She was still getting comfortable with the whole dating thing and was nervous to even talk to him on the phone. She texted him once "I almost called you today". He wrote back "yeah? how about now? :)". They talked almost every day after that. He kept coming back, every month. He was steady like that, making it easy even when she was still trying to talk herself out of it. Things got more serious. By October it was official. After a Foals concert, she told him she loved him and immediately hid under the covers. He said he loved her too. A year and a half of long distance and he moved to Phoenix, with her and her senior pug. Berkeley climbed onto the couch, looked at each of them, and licked both of their hands. That was his blessing. The three of them have been a family ever since. Sharing neighborhood walks with Berkeley in his stroller, long hugs in the kitchen while Chance cooks, desert walks Victoria resists only to feel better after. They make up stories about the animals in their yard. They do a lot of what they lovingly call "old people activities". Somewhere along the way their inner children became best friends. He played Invisible String on the drive to McDowell Mountain Preserve. She was already crying before they got there. A raven greeted them at the trailhead, then flew off and came back with its mate... (ravens mate for life). As the sun was setting on February 4th, 2025, he proposed holding a handwritten card and a ring engraved with stars and planets. She said yes still in tears. A family of quail burst from the brush and a great horned owl watched from a saguaro. They will be wed October 31st on Samhain, the night of Celtic tradition when the veil between worlds grows thin and the people we've lost & still love feel close again. Victoria's dad will be near that night. So will the grandmothers they both adored. And so will you. We cannot wait to celebrate with all of you. Victoria and Chance
