Travel Note
The wedding is 100% happening...and as with how things are going with COVID, all we can say is BE SAFE and wear a mask. The wedding venue takes very strict precautions to enforce safety measures. As with this whole pandemic, there is a lot we don't know, and we won't know what the situation will be in Decmber. What we do know is weddings are going on with as many safety measures as possible and for now that means you need a mask. We hope this wont deter you from coming to our wedding, but we also want to be extremely respectful of those who would rather not risk it...we truly understand! As for traveling to Mexico during the COVID pandemic, you don't need a negative result in advance, just to wear a mask. If you want to be on the safe side, you can buy international medical insurance online for your stay in Mexico. For those of you who will join us, here are some recommended hotels and travel tips for Mexico.
Hotel
THIS is where the wedding will be so you can't be any closer. You will need to call (+52 777 315 8844) or email (reservaciones@hotelhaciendadecortes.com.mx) to reserve and mention that you are going to the wedding of Veronica and Jorge. YOU CAN'T BOOK ONLINE DIRECTLY. Fantastic food and the most beautiful and historic Hacienda in Cuernavaca, once home to the Spanish Conquistador Hernán Cortes. Highly recommended for the true Mexican luxury experience. Book quickly to get a spot!
Hotel
Beautiful Gardens and pools. Very well located, 10 min drive from the Wedding venue and 10 min from the bus terminal and the city center.
Hotel
Beautiful Asian inspired hotel with a first-class all you can eat international brunch. 15 min to the Wedding Venue but not the most centric in the city.
Hotel
A more affordable option located across from 2 of Cuernavaca's main malls. 20 min drive to the wedding venue.
Flight
We recommend flying to Mexico City which is 1.5 hour north of Cuernavaca. At the airport from either terminal 1 or 2, you can rent a car or take a bus to Cuernavaca (Casino de la Selva station) for 300 pesos (17 USD).
Travel Note
Rule # 1 in Mexico: DONT DRINK TAP WATER! Always get bottled water or filtered water. Mexican food is AMAZING! Specially street food...However, not everyone can stomach it! Some food is cleaner than others and particularly be careful with the amount of Salsa you put on things! We encourage you to try restaurants but always ask around for recommendations on "Clean places to eat". Parent tip: No matter how strong of a stomach you have, take some Tums, Pepto, acid relief pill after eating...you will thank me later! If you do get sick, we have a saying in Mexico "Para todo mal, Mezcal, para todo bien, tambien"....Basically Mezcal (or Tequila) can cure anything hahaha!
Travel Note
Option A) if you are feeling brave to take on Mexican traffic rent a car at the major companies (Hertz, Thrift, Sixt, etc) Option B) Uber around! Uber works everywhere in Mexico and is pretty cheap. Always make sure your driver and license plate match with what the app says. Rule of thumb: We highly recommend avoiding Taxi´s, especially street taxies. Be safe, and don't risk it!
Travel Note
Mexico City is safe and has millions of tourists every day...but play it smart! Leave your jewelry and watches at home if you are spending a day in town. Avoid streets that look suspicious, keep to the main tourist areas and avoid walking around late at night. Cuernavaca is a smaller city, we recommend always taking Uber around, trips around town are 3-4 USD. Not worth it to walk around. Carrying money around: All formal restaurants accept cards, but some businesses, street shops, and souvenirs won´t, so carry cash as well. You will rarely need more than 1000 pesos (50 dollars) per day per person in cash. We recommend taking smaller notes (50 & 100 pesos), many places won't give you change for 200, 500 and 1,000. Parent tip: Don't carry all your money with you in one place, leave an extra credit card and cash at the hotel.
