Maid of Honor
We met as two obnoxious 10-year-olds with a love for (horribly executed) fake accents. Since then the accents have not improved at all, but we've grown close enough to hold whole conversations through a single look. Who better to read the bride's mind and juggle the many demands of wedding planning?
Best Man
We met on the bus at frosh in first year – it was bromance at first sight. A duo like Mario and Luigi. You can find us navigating boat traffic in Lake Ontario trying not to capsize our kayak or rock climbing in any gym that’ll give Rik a free belay test (he forgets).
Bridesmaid
We were swim team buddies at 10 years old (no competition ... she was MUCH faster) and reunited almost nine years later at Carleton University. Clearly a bond forged over Lizzie McGuire and Legally Blonde is not one easily broken.
Groomsman
My partner in crime in university badminton club. We were never really that good (but we sure liked to pretend), so we settled for what worked best for us and that was watching Raptors and Maple Leafs at Jack Astors on the regs.
Bridesmaid
One-third of our trio in middle school. My partner-in-crime for spontaneous trips and now a fellow traveller on the journey of engaged life. Plus, she's had a wedding board on Pinterest since Day 1 -- a true fount of wedding planning knowledge.
Groomswoman
We bonded through shared suffering in Schulich accounting class, but alas the partnership could not continue because I hated accounting. Our interest in arts, movies and her cool VW Shah have fueld our friendship through the years after we stopped complaining about our accounting prof in 4th year (the tax reaper).
Bridesmaid
The other third of our middle school trio who's hosted countless sleepovers. Her air mattress was our second home! Our fashionista who tells it like it is and puts up with none of your nonsense when it comes to getting things done.
Groomsman
Nick and I met in a random way - my Mom and his relative were complaining about how difficult it was to find work in Toronto, so they thought it'd be good for us to connect and help each other out. Litte did they know that our bond would transform into one where Nick gets satisfaction from crushing me in squash and most board games.
Bridesmaid
Besties since we were five years old (when I stole her away from some other kid at recess). She's the N in VANK, our cleverly-named foursome in elementary school. A trusty university roomie and travel buddy. From midnight snacks to soulful renditions of "The Circle of Life", she never leaves me hanging.
Groomsman
Another random encounter from a networking event hosted by random people (randomness everywhere!). We connected over our fondness of self improvement through Tim Ferris podcasts and competitiveness over ... everything -- boardgames, rock climbing, go-karting, you name it!
Bridesmaid
The final letter (K!) in our elementary school foursome, VANK. My foodie soulmate who appreciates the existence of a separate stomach reserved for dessert. She never guilt trips me for digging into that second (okay fourth) cookie. This is the kind of unconditional love that makes a bestie.
Bridesmaid
The A in our elementary school foursome, VANK. My summer camp ride or die who introduced me to my maid of honour! She's a cool cucumber on the outside, filled with cheesy dad jokes on the inside -- just the sort of person I need to help me keep my head on the big day.
Bridesmaid
Ah cousins -- the perfect blend of sibling and friend. Together we've built many a fort and suffered our fair share of parental lectures. My keeper of secrets and sender of memes. I couldn't walk down that aisle without her!
