Question

When should we use the metro?

Answer

The metro is fairly easy to navigate and there are often multiple attendees at stations to help answer questions. To pay the metro fare you can purchase a SmarTrip Card or use the new "Tap to Pay" feature which allows you to pay by tapping your phone, credit or debit card at the faregate. We suggest using the metro to explore the usual DC tourist spots and to get to the airport. While there is a metro stop near our ceremony/reception location, it would be a bit of a hike to take in nice attire. There is free parking available at our ceremony location if you would rather drive.

Question

Which airport should I fly into?

Answer

There are several airports that serve the DC, Virginia and Maryland area (aka "the DMV"). Which airport is the best for you depends on a few different factors. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (airport code: DCA) is short car or metro ride from our hotel suggestions in Alexandria and offers a great bird's-eye view of the National Mall just before landing. However, it may not offer as many options for direct flights for those traveling longer distances. Washington Dulles International Airport (airport code: IAD) is a great option for those traveling from farther away to get to DC/Virginia since there are often more options to fly direct. This airport is metro accessible, but have your favorite podcast ready. Taking the metro after you land to get into town or to catch your flight home will be about a 60-75 minute commute.

Question

What's the weather like in autumn in DC/VA?

Answer

As a native Floridian, Veronica didn't understand all the hype around fall... then she experienced it! The beautiful colors, the cool crisp air and the lack of humidity to keep the frizz away! The perfect season for a wedding :) Autumn in the Virginia area can vary from mid 50s to mid 70s, so we suggest opting for layers, including a light jacket or comfortable sweater. (Though it is rare, we have seen a couple days reach 80 degrees in recent years during the fall.)

Question

Could you suggest places to eat, drink and see while we're in town?

Answer

There's no shortage of places to visit from Old Town to Washington, D.C. Check out the "Things to Do" section of our website to see some of our favorite spots. Whether you're visiting for the first time or like to go off the beaten path, we've listed out something for everyone!

For all the days along the way
