One of V's friends opened a new event space on Hong Kong Island, and the first week featured a different show each night. On the Thursday, it was stand-up comedy. V was not only guilted into attending by her friend, but was coerced into sitting right up front. Predictably, one of the comedians picked on V between sets. That comedian felt badly enough about the interaction that he offered to buy her a drink after the show as an apology. And nine years later, that same comedian still regularly apologizes to V for his poor punchlines and irritating ribbing.
On a surprise weekend trip to Quebec City, Sean spent days carrying a ring around in his pocket and failing to find a perfect moment to take a knee and pop the question. On the day that he and V were to fly home, they found themselves on an impromptu whale watching trip up in Tadoussac that required a long drive back to the airport. The proposal window was closing, but fate brought Sean... a roadside helicopter sightseeing company. With the help of a Francophone pilot (who happened to be a romantic, thankfully), the chopper landed atop a scenic peak in the Laurentian Mountains, and it was there that Sean proposed. On the condition that she'd be left up there if she declined, V said yes.
Why let a pandemic put your life on hold? Eager to be married, Venus and Sean postponed the 'big party' and booked a timeslot at Toronto's City Hall in the fall of 2020 to tie the knot. With travel bans still in place and Ontario imposing strict limits on in-person gatherings, their families logged into the ceremony via Zoom and watched as they exchanged vows, placed rings on each others' hands, and said 'I do.'
