Dan and Allison met online and quickly bonded over their love of their children, Abe and Muffin. On their first date, Dan quickly won Allison over with his stories of high school choir and childhood delinquency. At the end of the night, he asked if he could kiss her, and the rest is history. After about 6 months, Dan invited Allison to his brother Ben's wedding. Allison didn't know many people, but Dan's family and cousins made her feel right at home. Dan gave one of the best speeches Allison had ever heard - and the deal was sealed.
Dan and Allison planned a New Year's trip to Belize with their friends. Allison mentioned that she'd like to scuba dive and so they spent the summer getting certified. Allison was terrified, but Dan jumped right in. His comfort made her feel brave enough to get over her fear. Four months later they were swimming 80 feet deep in the ocean with sharks. In April, Allison moved in with Dan. Then the pandemic hit. They knew if they could survive being together 24/7 in a condo with no doors, they could survive anything. So they decided to test that theory.
In May, they drove down to Green Mountain Falls, Colorado to stay in Dan's Aunt Lisa's cozy cabin. They were greeted with her famous homemade apple pie, still warm. It was on this trip that Allison and Dan fell in love with the town. Every morning they took long hikes in the forests (usually because they got lost) and every night they howled with the local dogs in thanks to healthcare workers. Towards the end of the trip they decided to attempt to climb a fourteener: Pike's Peak. It SUCKED, but they pushed each other to keep going. When they finally reached the top, it was under construction. In typical Dan fashion, they snuck through the fence and construction site to take their photo by the sign.
In November, Dan and Allison decided they needed another outdoorsy getaway. They flew to the island of Kauai to spend a week drinking cocktails by the pool and scuba diving with sea turtles. When they found out that one of the top ten most dangerous hikes in the country was nearby, they knew they had to do it. Dan carried all of their gear 11 miles through the rainforest, past signs warning of feral pigs and sheer cliff faces, to get to the most beautiful beach they had ever seen. They slept beneath the stars and then turned around the next morning to do it all over again. Alone on another secret beach, Dan told Allison he had a question for her. He held out a box containing his mother's engagement ring, but never got to ask the question because Allison was already saying, "yes!"
