March 28th of 2021, Veda got dressed in good spirits as usual excited to meet her friend Kim aka “twin” for a bridal shower, lunch, and Herrera's Mexican grill. Ricky was hesitant to go out but was encouraged and pushed to go out by his friend. Neither of them had an idea that their lives were about to go through a monumental change. There at Herreras, Veda while socializing at the bar, saw Ricky ordering a drink. At that time Ricky did not see Veda as the bar was super crowded. Veda turned to her friend Argena to point Ricky out. Of course, being the encouraging friend, she was on board to take a closer look. Veda and her friend proceeded to the patio where Veda’s friend approached Ricky to express interest on behalf of Veda. Veda was approached by another guy as she was on her way to get introduced to Ricky. Argena then interrupts that interaction by telling the guy she needed to steal Veda to introduce her to her “cousin” (Ricky). After the introduction, Veda and Ricky immediately hit it off. The conversation was beyond genuine and full of laughter. That same night Veda sent Ricky a text saying she had made it back safe, he replied he was happy to have met. The next morning Veda and Ricky exchanged messages and it sparked a conversation that lasted all day and night. That conversation led to making plans to meet in person at Drafthouse. The conversation was so engaging that they both lost track of time. They felt like they had known each other for a very long time. Their conversation and energy just clicked; they ended up talking there until closing. There they got to know more about each other and they were both certain they wanted to continue to learn more. That was the beginning of their journey together. June 8th, 2021 was difficult because Ricky had just accepted a job to go back home to his hometown Blytheville, AR prior to meeting. So they held a celebration for his new job but more importantly to count the days until he returned back to Dallas, Tx. During his time away they took flights and road trips back and forth to one another until he returned home to Dallas in April of 2022. They continued to enjoy life and celebrate together for birthdays, holidays, family/friend gatherings in Aruba, Dominican Republic and Montego Bay Jamaica. Veda heard so many stories about Jamaica through friends and was not prepared for the memorable experience that would take place there. On the final day of their Jamaica trip, they spent most of the day enjoying the sun and beach. Ricky told Veda he had planned their dinner reservations for their last night to be held on the beach. Veda assumed it was something special for her birthday. However, Veda started to notice weird behaviors from Ricky and changes to the itinerary which made her curious. At this times she noticed Ricky on his phone whispering to their friend Tiffany. Veda’s patience started to wear thin with all of the plan changes. After what felt like forever, they finally arrived at the restaurant. The anticipation started to build as the entire party all waited for Ricky to “inspect” the dinner area. Veda was growing suspicious not knowing Ricky was making sure all was perfect. Once he was ready he signaled Tiffany to bring Veda where he would propose. Her eyes were covered and her heart began to beat faster as butterflies fluttered in her stomach. She heard their song “Stuck on You" she was thinking OH MY GOD what’s happening! Once her eyes were uncovered they were met with a breathtaking irreplaceable moment of Ricky down on his knee asking for Veda’s hand in marriage. The moment was exactly what they had envisioned. A happy, in love, God centered, prayer filled moment. Before God, we form this union and through God, our journey begins.
