This picture is of Emeriti Park, where we got engaged! Ohio University campus is within walking distance of our venue, and its definitely worth taking a walk around campus. The Union is right across from College Green which serves as the center of campus. Baker Center will take you to the West side of campus and help you avoid some hills!
The Ridges is a historical site in Athens, Ohio and was originally a mental asylum. If you would like to read more about the history of the Ridges, we included a link. You can take one of the many hiking trails to Radar Hill, which is the highest point in Athens county.
Strouds Run State Park is around a 10 minute drive from any of the hotels and has a number of hiking trails as well!
Dairy Barn Arts Center is open from 12-5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and costs $10 to enter. They typically have exhibitions which range from featuring local artists to hosting a national quilt show!
My (Haley) parents have considered driving over an hour to have breakfast here. It would be perfect to stop in for a quick pastry/coffee on Saturday morning and head over to the Athens farmers market!
Every Saturday from 9am-12pm, the Athens Community Center hosts the Athens Farmers Market, which features local produce, baked goods, prepared food, coffee, hand dyed yarn, etc! A fantastic way to spend the morning before we get married (and you may even see us here...)
Bagel Street Deli is a place that was recommended to me (Haley) a million times when I transferred to OU and the MacGyger has saved my life on more than one occasion. It's worth going, even if it's just for a pickle.
Before you read the rest of this - yes that is Dave Grohl. He wore a Casa Nueva shirt to Kurt Cobain's wedding! Casa officially has the Grohl endorsement. (Michael loves this fact) Casa Nueva has some of the best 'Mexican' food in town! Some call it hippie food, I call it good. Whether it's for dinner, drinks, or one of their MANY dance nights, Casa is a great place to spend an evening! We have many friends who are bartenders there and Haley's band actually started as a band of Casa employees. Stop in, get some food, and check out some of the local art on display. They always have pieces from different local artists, and if you're lucky they'll be doing an artist showcase when you're here! If you're extra lucky, late night tacos will be open on the evening of our wedding.
This is our favorite bar in town! Athens has 19 bars on one street and 21 bars within walking distance, I've (Michael) been to all of them extensively and this is by far the best. The vibe, the patio, darts, the specialty drinks! If you want a fun way to end an evening, it's here.
