Transportation in Buenos Aires - Uber

Uber is fairly cheap in Buenos Aires and we prefer it over regular taxis because 1) you have a pre-determined route/price, 2) you don't necessarily need cash (you can choose to pay in the app), and 3) it is also more convenient if you don't speak Spanish. Peak hours in the city are generally between 7–10 am and 5–7 pm, so expect getting caught in a traffic jam at those times. We know a friendly and trustable private driver that you can contact if you prefer. He also works for Uber. His name is Sergio and you can request his service/ask a quote through WhatsApp at this number: +54 9 115 732 1213. IMPORTANT NOTE: We strongly recommend you to use Uber to travel from the International Airport (EZEIZA) to your hotel. This trip is going to take approximately 1 hour. Depending on the traffic, Uber will charge you approximately 30–50 USD.

Transportation in Buenos Aires - Public transport

Public transport (subways, trains, buses, and public bikes) in Buenos Aires is very affordable. To use this efficiently, use the public transport option in your Google Maps app. Usually, the best way to get around is by subway ("subte" in Spanish). A special public transport card, called SUBE, is used for almost all payments (similar to the "OV-chipkaart for Dutch travelers). You can get and charge the SUBE in many kiosks and all subway stations. Note that public transport can be very crowded in peak hours (7–10 am & 5–7 pm). If you would like to use a bicycle, get the app "BA Ecobici por Tembici". Set it up in advance with your credit card and find your closest bike station. You will bike from one station to another, where you can leave the bike. Bike-lanes are limited. You can bike on regular streets, but consider that Buenos Aires has very lively traffic!

Cellular data & Communication in Argentina

If you want to have cellular internet and communication during your stay in Argentina, it is a great deal to get a pre-paid line right at the international airport (EZEIZA) at your arrival. On the second floor of the airport, there is a shop called "Personal". You will pre-pay a price according to the amount of cellular data you want to have available (for example, it will be around 20 USD for 8 GB, and it will include unlimited calls, sms and free WhatsApp for a month). After a month of use, the credit will expire unless you actively renew the plan. You don't need to cancel the line or the plan. It will expire automatically due to disuse.

How to get Argentinian pesos (ARG) / How to pay in Argentina

Getting Argentinian pesos is a good idea because: 1) A few things are only payable by cash (example: street food), 2) some things are cheaper if you pay by cash, and 3) if you pay with your credit/debit card, you will get the official exchange rate (approx. 1 USD = 140 ARG). However, if you exchange cash dollars/euros through an unofficial company, your exchange rate will be around double (approx. 1 USD = 284 ARG). In Argentina, this is called the "dollar blue". As Argentina is always battling inflation, rates change quite often. Our wedding planner has a trustable agent that can visit your hotel for unofficial currency exchange if you wish so (His WhatsApp contact information: Agustin Nuñez +5491154877193, you can contact him on my behalf). Always keep small change handy. If you need more, simply withdraw from one of the ATMs scattered around cities (official exchange rate apply). Be discreet, avoid flashing your wallet, and don't extract big amounts in one go. Important: If you choose to pay with a card, you will be asked to show a form of ID to verify that you are the owner.
