Josh’s Version: I was working 6 days a week, 12 hour days in Tampa, and we met on Hinge. We set up a date at the local strawberry festival. It was my only day off, and I almost cancelled our date because she was going to be late (little did I know she’s always late). We decided we were going to do it, we pulled the trigger. We met and I thought she was going to catfish me, which she didn’t. We walked around the festival looking for alcohol, and they didn’t have any. Then we went to the Irish Pub, I had a beer and she had whiskey. (I was clearly the more responsible one). Krissy’s version: We met on Hinge because a friend of mine swiped right on Josh and I thought he was cute enough to continue the conversation. After a week of talking, we decided to meet halfway in Plant City, (Josh was working in Tampa) who happened to be having a strawberry festival at the time. Come the day of our first date, Apollo decided to get sick so I spent the morning cleaning up after him, and told Josh that I was going to be later than originally planned. Josh tried to reschedule but I convinced him to still meet up. We walked around and looked at COWS! After walking the whole festival and noticing there was no alcohol, and no where to sit, we found a merchant selling wooden swings. In order to take advantage of the resting spot we pretended to be a married couple actively looking to invest in a swing for “our backyard”. After resting and determining there was nothing else to do we bought a pint of strawberries and went to the local pub. Here, I showed Josh what it means to drink by ordering a Jack and Coke and not a Busch. After two rounds, we decided to say goodnight and Josh walked me to my car. I still tease him for being too shy to kiss me.
After just two dates, Josh decided to move from Florida to Virginia Beach. Where as most people would have thrown in the towel, Josh and Krissy decided to take a risk and proceeded to date long distance for over a year. Each taking turns traveling to the other whenever time apart got too hard. Almost a year to the exact day of their first date, Josh helped Krissy pack up and drive 16 hours with three animals to their new home in Virginia Beach. They arrived just a week prior to the great lockdown of 2020, and have enjoyed annoying each other ever since. Today they own a house in Virginia Beach and have worked together to build a life they love
If you know Krissy, you know she hates surprises, and to say Josh surprised her is an understatement. Knowing Krissy’s inability to accept a surprise Josh knew if he tried to plan anything it would be ruined. So on a random night in December, Josh offered to exchange Christmas gifts. Thinking she knew what Josh had gotten her (a beautiful necklace), Krissy agreed. Krissy thought she knew because when she heard Josh had gone over their budget for Christmas gifts, she put her detective hat on and found the receipt. None the wiser Krissy prepared to act surprised when she saw a small jewelry box. Imagine her actual surprise when the box did indeed hold a ring. In fact her first response was not yes, it was “WHAT IS THIS, NO! WHAT IS THIS” After clarifying that it is actually an engagement ring Krissy spent the rest of the night crying, calling those closest to her, and forcing Josh to dance. Ps.
