How We Met

They don't call it "Zumba Love" for nothing...

Randy and I met at a Zumba Event in Puerto Rico in 2017. Unbeknownst to either of us, we were both moving to Orlando a few months after that. Randy moved in May 2017, and I moved June 2017. Being that we are both Zumba Instructors, we saw each other at almost every event and class. A few months after moving, Randy finally asked me out. After our date - even though I thought he was super cute and charming - I had told him I wasn't ready to date just yet, since I had just gone through a bad breakup. I will never forget the next thing Randy said to me: "I wish I could have met you at a different time in your life.. but if what you need right now is a friend, I think I'm man enough to be that for you." Fast forward 6 months and many Zumba events, I was given the opportunity to host a special "Dance Floor Wars" Zumba class, and I could pick my opponent. The obvious choice was Randy. After that event, he asked me out again (even though I beat him in our dance floor war lol!) and I gladly accepted. We went to the movies - he even chose a scary movie, knowing I loved them (but he doesn't)! The next day, after a friend's birthday brunch, a group of us continued to hang out all day. After a Sunday Funday and some liquid courage, Randy kissed me and it was game over from that moment.

The Engagement

August 14, 2021

Once I decided to propose, I started planning on when & where to do it. Thoughts started floating into my mind. Selecting the ring was a bit challenging, I wanted to talk to some of her friends to get ideas, but I didn’t want her to find out, so I decided not to consult anyone. All I knew from my future betrothed was that she liked the color rose gold and she did not like princess cut. Did my research & based on her personality was able to find what I thought was the perfect ring for her. The weeks leading up to the date, I was nervous, & kept on getting courage from my mentor, sister and best friend to remain calm. Wanting to do things the right way, I called her father to ask for her hand in marriage (talk about being nervous, lol) I mustered up the courage and replayed the speech in my mind countless times of how I was going to protect and provide for his daughter. Once this was done some of the nervousness went away knowing that I had the full blessing of her father. A week before the date I picked a fight with her to throw off any scent she might have of the proposal. This was a challenge given we don’t usually fight for a long period of time, but as I was committed to making this girl my wife, I had to be committed in everything leading up to it. That weekend, we had a retreat with some business partners and our mentors, staying at a mansion in Davenport. I was trying to be calm, cool and collected. Finally the hour arrived. We were giving a speech in front of our peers, my palms started sweating, & my heart started racing. I had the ring in my pocket & I kept on tapping it just to make sure it hadn't magically disappeared. When the time came to propose I fumbled my fingers trying to get the ring, I could feel my heart throbbing frantically as the realization of what was about to happen was hitting. Finally with a stroke of luck got the ring out said my speech & the rest is… let’s just say it’s the beginning of an amazing journey of the rest of our lives.
