Fully organized daytrip by travel agency. Please send a message to Simon or Valeria by 30th September if you would like to join the daytrip. Costs between USD 60-75 per person. Bus pick up time at the Boca Olas Resort: 08:00am / return 09:00-10:00pm. Begin your day by stepping back in time at Tazumal Archaeological Site, home to some of El Salvador's most impressive Maya ruins. Here, you'll explore ancient pyramids and temples that stand as a testament to a once-great civilization. This site offers a unique glimpse into the rich history and cultural heritage of the region. Next, we'll journey to the lush mountainous region known as La Ruta de Las Flores, a picturesque route dotted with charming colonial villages nestled among coffee-covered hillsides. Our first stop is at El Carmen Estate, one of the finest organic coffee farms in the area. You'll learn about the coffee-making process, from the cultivation of the beans to the perfect cup of coffee. see more details in part II....
Part II ...We'll then head to the colonial town of Ataco for lunch, where you can stroll through cobblestone streets lined with vibrant murals painted by local artists. This town is a cultural treasure, blending centuries-old traditions with contemporary art. Afterward, we’ll continue along the Ruta de Las Flores offering panoramic views of El Salvador's majestic volcanoes. Our route takes us toward the Pacific coast, with a stop at the serene Mizata Beach. Here, you'll unwind at a beachfront bar, soaking in the spectacular sunset that paints the sky in hues of gold and orange. Our final destination is Beto's Restaurant, one of the best seaside eateries perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Enjoy a delicious dinner in a stunning setting, with the sound of waves crashing below. After dinner, we'll return you to your hotel, leaving you with memories of an unforgettable day in El Salvador.
If you're feeling adventurous, we recommend the volcan de Santa Ana Hike. For best views, start your hike at sunrise (6-7AM) - don't forget to consider the ~2 hour drive from El Tunco (depending on the traffic). Once you reach the top (2,381 mts / 7,812 ft), you'll find the green lagoon that has formed in the crater. You'll also have amazing views of volcan de Izalco, Lago de Coatepeque and miles of Salvadorian land.
If you're looking to spend a night outside of the city, we recommend staying at one of the hotels in Lago de Coatepeque. You can enjoy a restful evening and the beautiful lake! This is also the wedding location - which means you will be there anyway.
A recent tourist area built to accommodate surfers from all around the world. You can find boutique hotels in this area and great seafood restaurants & bars. Don't forget to hit the waves! The most famous spot is El Tunco, where the waves meet the night life. However, there are many other beautiful spots and areas around there. Check it out.
Interested in tourism outside of San Salvador? We recommend following the "Ruta de las flores" (Route of the flowers). This route reaches the Nahuizalco, Apaneca, Ataco, and Suchitoto towns. These are Salvadoran historic settlements that offer authentic Salvadoran food, "artesanias", and recreational activities (think: zip lining, coffee tours, etc.).
