Grandma's Marathon weekend

While hotels and motels do book quickly and can be expensive, there are several less expensive and non-traditional lodging options available throughout the area. Many hotels don’t accept online bookings for Grandma’s Marathon weekend. This is for a variety of reasons that are unique to race weekend in our community, so while it may appear online that there are no rooms available, calling the hotel directly is always your best option. We know this adds time to your process, but it can also set you up for success! What is Grandma's Marathon? Started by a local group of runners in 1977, Grandma’s Marathon has grown from just 150 participants its first year to now one of the largest and best-known marathons in the United States. The racecourse, in a wonderful combination of serenity and excitement, runs alongside the quiet and scenic shores of Lake Superior before entering the city limits of Duluth where runners are welcomed and pushed to the finish line by a boisterous and enthusiastic throng of spectators. In what’s become the largest community event of each calendar year, Grandma’s Marathon weekend has now become the unofficial kickoff to summer in Duluth and the surrounding region!
