Timed tickets to Independence Hall tours are available online at recreation.gov for $1, and the tour is located across the mall from our ceremony. Particularly if you’ve never toured Independence Hall before, the hours between our ceremony and reception would be a perfect time for it. We suggest seeing the Liberty Bell across the street while you wait for your Independence Hall tour.
Famous for a reason and worth the trip! There are a number of amazing food vendors--you can't go wrong with a Carmen's Steaks + Beiler's Donuts duo.
There’s so much to see in Old City! Beyond the National Historic Park, we love the Free Quaker Meeting House, Carpenters’ Hall, and Washington Square Park for a bit of history. Other suggestions include the Science History Institute (except Sundays), Headhouse Farmer’s Market (Sundays), and Independence Beer Garden.
Hammocks, games, snacks & drinks with a view! Use the Spruce Street bridge to access SSHP by foot or bike from Old City.
Visit the link for a north-to-south walking guide along the Parkway, starting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Our favorite stop is the Franklin Institute for amazing science exhibits! If you get hungry, we suggest Asia on the Parkway, Animo, or Pizzeria Vetri.
A beautiful trail for running, walking, and biking. Can’t miss the dog park (~25th & Spruce) near Ty and Leah’s first apartment, the skate park by the art museum, and Boathouse Row along the trail at Kelly Drive north of the art museum. (There’s also a trail along Delaware Ave on the east side of the city, closer to Old City, but it’s decidedly less beautiful.)
Need restaurant recommendations? Here are some of our favorites: Puyero - casual spot for empanadas (4th and South) Mixto - our favorite Cuban restaurant in the city (12th and Pine) Good Dog Bar - amazing burgers and canine wall art (15th and Locust) Monk’s Cafe - dimly lit bar with an impressive beer list and a variety of mussels dishes (16th and Spruce) Ants Pants Cafe - cash-only L/BRunch spot where Ty and Leah had brunch the day of the proposal (22nd and South, multiple locations) Bud & Marilyn’s - classic American food with a nostalgic vibe (13th and Locust) If you’re in from out of town and haven’t had a Wawa hoagie, you should experience it. Yes, it’s a convenience store. Yes, it’s a quasi-religious experience. If you’re looking for the best Philly cheesesteak, it’s easier if you just call one of us. (: Best coffee spots are Elixir, Reanimator, Rival Brothers, and La Colombe. They each have various locations. Or, as always, you can find even more suggestions on Eater.
If you find yourself itching to venture outside of Center City, may we suggest our home neighborhood Fishtown, easily accessible from Center City via Market/Frankford line, Uber/Lyft, or a quick drive. You could also walk if you’re feeling active and want to see more of the city...it’s about a mile and half from Old City straight up 2nd Street. In Fishtown you should: -stroll and shop up and down Frankford Ave. (start at Frankford & Girard and walk north) -stop in for a bite at OverEasy Breakfast Club, Loco Pez, Middle Child Clubhouse, or Suraya -grab a drink at Interstate Drafthouse, Fishtown Tavern, Evil Genius, the International, or Frankford Hall -enjoy river views at Penn Treaty Park (pro tip: bring coffee and/or the chorizo breakfast tacos from Milkcrate Cafe on Columbia & Girard and walk to the park using the Columbia underpass).
Want to spend a morning like Tyler and Leah do? Visit our favorite, unassuming park in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. Grab a coffee at One Shot or the BEST danish in the city at Kaplan’s Bakery at 3rd and Poplar. (Try the cherry and cream cheese flavor; trust us.)
