Jenn and Tyler met on a winter evening at a neighborhood bar during their weekly run club, which takes place every Wednesday, across the year for locals to enjoy an organized 3 or 5 mile run together followed by socialization sharing a beverage. Ironically, both Jenn and Tyler had been going to the run club for several years (on and off) living within a 5-minute walk and have never crossed paths. On the evening the couple met, in November 2019, it was surprisingly chilly with a high temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Fortunately for Tyler, it was bitterly cold that night and he showed up early (as usual) snagging a spot with the space heater. Jenn and her friend, Macall, also showed up early and retreated the bar to stay warm. Macall encouraged Jenn to go outside to socialize by the space heater, and of course, Jenn agreed after seeing a very handsome man (and dog) huddling for warmth. With quick introductions, Jenn and Tyler met (and she met Jake, the Belgium Malinois dog and best running buddy ever) and quickly hit it off. Rumor has it that Jenn fell in love with Jake first. Tyler was just a bonus. Despite Tyler teasing about Jenn’s light-up vest and neon running gear, they did exchange contact info and planned to run in Houston’s largest half marathon, as a group, only 2 months later. Their first official date took place shortly thereafter meeting at the same run club for a run followed by dinner at a local restaurant, Canyon Creek. Sweaty and hungry, they ate a cowboy Ribeye and spent the evening sharing about life, travel, food, and aspirations. What was planned to be a quick bite turned into a 3-hour conversation. The rest is history.
Jenn and Tyler’s first trip together took place in Lake Tahoe in February 2020 to go skiing for President’s Day Weekend (which was also Valentine’s Day), this trip was so special and memorable for them. Later that summer, Tyler’s family invited them back to Lake Tahoe for boating, biking, and enjoying the cooler weather (compared to Houston). It was a great escape and officially made Lake Tahoe a place where they could see themselves visiting together frequently. Fast forward to December 2021, Tyler’s original plan was to propose to Jenn in Lake Tahoe around New Year’s, where they planned to go back to ski with friends after spending Christmas in San Francisco with his family. Unfortunately, 8 feet of snow cancelled those plans, as they couldn’t make it safety. With a week off work, they decided to go on an impromptu trip in wine country, Yountville, California instead. Tyler kept the ring in his pocket, waiting for the perfect moment to propose. Despite many romantic strolls through the vines, and starry-eyed dinners, the moment never quite felt right. It was at this time Tyler decided that he wanted to propose at home. He wanted a place where they would be able to re-visit and remember this special moment. Plus, he wanted this wingman Jake to have a role to play. The day was January 7th. The location was the Eastern Glades at Memorial Park. This is a beautiful lake surrounded by wildflowers and grassy fields. The two frequently visited this area on walks with their dog, Jake. So today was no different. With some help from our friends, Tyler was able to get Jenn there without knowing what was coming. Tyler got down on one knee and proceeded to say a bunch of words that nobody remembers. Jenn was completely surprised and enthusiastically said yes. Champagne, photos, and many excited phone calls followed.
