Enjoy the world class beaches found on Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Managed by the National Park Service, the beaches are clean and generally quiet in the late summer/early fall. Explore the ocean side of the island where you will find bigger waves and wider beaches. There are ramps to drive onto the beach (pass is required) and there are walk overs located up and down the island. The side of the island on the Pamlico Sound offers calmer water and more seclusion.
Enjoy visiting the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. There is a museum at the base of the lighthouse to explore that tells the history of the lighthouse as well as the history of Hatteras Island itself. You can also climb the lighthouse to enjoy one of the most scenic views on the island.
Spend the day fishing, clamming, and exploring on one of many local charter boats. There are boats of all sizes and price ranges that can accommodate a range of activities or target a wide variety of species. Family Water Adventures is great for getting fresh clams in the sound. There are boats to target drum, sheepshead, and trout inshore as well boats to target mahi, tuna, wahoo, marlin, and sailfish offshore.
Take the car ferry or the passenger ferry to the next island down, Ocracoke Island. The island has great restaurants, bars, a lighthouse, and gift shops to explore. This is also the island Blackbeard was killed on. The island has daily golf cart rentals to get around and also has a free tram service. Ocracoke is a great day trip for the family or just the adults.
The waters off Hatteras are known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic” due to the high number of shipwrecks off the coast. This museum does a thorough job showcasing that, as well as displaying cool artifacts and telling great stories! Shipwrecks include those from the wooden ship era, the ironclad, Monitor, during the Civil War, and even World War II submarines and merchant ships!
Hatteras has several great local artists. We encourage our guests to take some time to admire their work. Some of our favorite galleries are Sea Worthy Gallery as well as Blue Pelican Art Gallery.
Mini golf, go karting, and arcade rooms are a great activity located a few minutes from the venue!
