OUR STORY

The tale of Tye and Betsy begins on a bitter cold and wintry night in 2007, when they first crossed paths at a gathering in Saint Paul. Twenty year-old Tye and his Vassar friends did little to impress Betsy on that first evening, but later that night, in a moment of frostbitten Minnesotan gallantry, he jump started her stalled car in the -20 temperatures. Parting ways, our star-crossed lovers remembered the sparks that flew that fateful evening, and the mild electrical shock Tye felt as a few of them flowed through his mittened hand. Fast forward FIVE YEARS to July 2012, where Betsy and Tye rekindled those sparks at a Bastille Day celebration in Minneapolis. As the sun set over a perfect Minnesota summer's day, and costumed reenactors stormed a shoddy Papier-mâché castle, their hands met and love began to grow. To this day, Tye and Betsy consider Bastille Day the anniversary. They offer their apologies to any ardent supporters of the French monarchy. For six years, Tye and Betsy built their love and affection over bike rides, fish tacos, Vietnamese food, and walks around Minneapolis' lakes. Later they went on trips and expanded their love in places like Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Vietnam. In 2017, they returned to where it all began, and moved into a large house in Saint Paul with a pair of close friends. They are so happy to welcome you to their wedding and help them ring in the next chapter of their lives!

THE PROPOSAL

JANUARY 20, 2018

Tye and Betsy have a Christmas tradition to plan special date days for each other in lieu of presents. Last January Tye planned a special day for Betsy starting with brunch, a winter hike, and visiting the Art Shanties on Lake Harriet. The weather was balmy for January but Tye was insistent on stopping by Lake of the Isles, a favorite spot for ice skating. The ice was pretty patchy but the sun was just starting to set when Tye asked Betsy to look in his jacket pocket- and there inside she found the ring! It was a perfect moment that was luckily captured by two total strangers with an iphone. And when they arrived home, Tye had arranged for a bunch of friends to be there to celebrate with champagne and salsa dancing!
