From the very beginning they seemed to do everything they tell you not to do in a relationship. Like they all say "never date your coworker" and that's exactly what they did. She was the new girl, at Lexington, Kentucky's popular restaurant Malones, getting informed on all the history and who's who. Robert Tyler Smith was the guy she was told to stay away from, that didn't last long but they sure have. Whether it was him lying about liking spaghetti the first night they decided to make dinner together, him enduring her lame movie picks, or his patience he had with her to teach all the know hows of hunting, the love they had for one another continued to grow as each sun set. They spent their first year together full of great experiences, adventures, laughs, and have taught each other a whole lot not only about one another but themselves too and continue to do so day in and day out. When they think of their future they think of one another and all the plans and goals they have developed together. Coworkers to friends to best of friends to soul mates, may they have all the love from here on forward we hope you join us on or big day!
It was the most nerve-racking week trying to keep the biggest secret from Alexis. From always telling her everything to feeling like I was hiding something from her, I quickly became a nervous wreck. One day I just knew she was the one, she supported me through everything I did; gave me words of encouragement to push me to do things I wanted to do; would always put me first no matter how much I wanted to do the same for her and there never was a day that I ever had to doubt that the fire of our love for one another would forever burn. She was the one I wanted to grow old with. As I was to be a groomsman for my buddy Matt's wedding coming up, I had planned for a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio for a custom suit fitting, (little did Alexis know this was when I visited a jeweler Matt recommended to pick out a ring). I knew exactly what I was looking for, a ring with all the little twisties and sparkly. It wasn't until I got there was I a nervous wreck looking at dozens of rings, sweating the whole day, having to take a little walk around the mall every 15 minutes or so. But eventually the jeweler pulled out a ring, the one. It was classic and simple, didn't have all the twisties but I knew when I saw it I knew it was the ring for her. I wanted to tell her as soon as she got home from work and luckily her questions about the fake suit fitting were minimal. All week long she knew I was up to something. I always kept my phone within reach, hid it while I was in the shower so she couldn't see what I was up to, and I would have to immediately quit my conversations with our closest coworkers whenever she came near. She was convinced I was cheating on her but really she was the only girl for me. Trying to figure out the right time to ask with Christmas less than a month away I knew I couldn't wait that long. She had a local CrossFit competition coming up and I knew that was going to be the day with all her gym friends there for support.
I reached out to the gym owner and the one organizing the competition explaining to him what I wanted to do. He couldn't have been more excited for me and helped me make it a special day. As Alexis had completed her workouts one by one my heart started beating faster and faster. I was constantly pacing the floor practicing my speech over and over and every now and then Alexis would peer back at me wondering what in the world I mixed in my oats that morning. I had our best friends Matt and Jen Lakamp come out for support for Alexis, of course, but they were there to video the whole thing. Before they were to announce the winners of the competition I knew I was up first for my big announcement. The look on Alexis' face was priceless as she immediately got bloodshot red when she saw me standing up front of 200 or so people holding a microphone. "I just have a quick announcement for a special competitor my girlfriend Alexis. I'm just so proud of her and everything she's been able to accomplish here today. She said I had been acting weird all week and I just knew I wanted to tell everyone how much she meant to me. We've been dating for about a year and a half now and it's just been the biggest blessing of my life. She really has completely changed me into a better person and I just can't thank her enough I mean she's so hard working so dedicated, very loyal, and selfless and she really has the best heart that I know. Baby, you're my best friend, I can't imagine life without you and I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy. Will you make me the happiest guy in the world and marry me?" And she said yes, and now it’s the beginning of forever.
