Elisabeth and Jake met in the accelerated, EMT Winter Term course at DePauw University during their sophomore year. While, the course would spring board Jake's career into health care, it had the opposite affect on Elisabeth. Yet, finding the love of her life, made it a great investment. After spending a month in the same classroom eight hours a day, six days a week, they went on their first date, Late Night in the Union at DePauw. They shared cheese quesadillas and french fries. After that, the rest is history.
Earlier in 2022 Jake told Elisabeth that he wanted to start shopping for engagement rings and he wanted to shop together! Originally, Elisabeth was so against this idea and wanted the ring to be a surprise. But, she was wrong. Elisabeth and Jake went to Reis Nichols to design the ring and it was absolutely amazing! Together they picked out every single part of the ring. Now, whenever they look at it, they have beautiful shared memories of each choice and visit. The ring was completed in June 2022 and hidden away from Elisabeth. Flash forward to Saturday October 15th, 2022. Jake tells Elisabeth that he received an extra weekend off work and wanted to take Ella to DePauw to walk around campus before she went to the Monon Bell game. Elisabeth said sure and didn't think anything of it! Little did she know, this wasn't a surprise trip but a months long plan including her parents, and best friends. Jake meticulously planned a walk in the Nature Park to start our visit. The walk would allow Elisabeth's parents and friends to drive to DePauw and hide behind the bushes at the Alumni building. However, the nature park added a few trails since the couple had visited and they got lost! They ended up hiking over three miles through the park before heading back to campus! This is where they learned Ella is not a hiking pup! Getting back on campus they walked towards The Boulder to get pictures. Elisabeth started getting pictures of Jake and Ella and then they switched. While Elisabeth bent down to pick up Ella for her pictures Jake got on one knee. As soon as Elisabeth said yes, cheers erupted from the Alumni Office. Standing in the bushes were Elisabeth's parents, Maid of Honor Kiesh and Bridesmaid Keegan. It was perfect and you can tell Elisabeth was completely surprised!
