We’ve laughed hard, cried harder, and somehow found a way to fit perfectly into each other’s beautifully chaotic lives. Now, as we step into this next chapter — nearly 30, wildly in love, and ready to become one — we’re doing it our way: surrounded by the ocean, our people, and a love that bridges every difference. It was a crisp November evening, the kind where the air smells like cinnamon and fallen leaves crunch beneath your boots. The city’s old Performing Arts Center was glowing under fairy lights, and inside, a full orchestra was tuning up for “The Music of Harry Potter.” I’d found my seat in the balcony, wrapped in my Ravenclaw sweater, clutching a hot cup of cocoa. Just as the conductor raised his baton, I noticed him—two rows ahead, wearing his own hufflepuff sweater. The moment the first notes of “Hedwig’s Theme” floated through the air, our eyes met. It was like the Sorting Hat itself had decided we belonged in the same story. During intermission, we somehow found ourselves standing in the same concession line. He made a joke about us looking like we’d just stepped off the Hogwarts Express, and I laughed—because, honestly, it felt true. In reality? There were no orchestras, no falling leaves, no magical cocoa. There was me—accidentally exploring the Facebook Dating app out of sheer curiosity—when I got a notification saying a mutual friend living in the same city wanted to connect. I figured, why not? Maybe I’d recognize someone I already knew. Letting facebook copy over my info , my profile was automatically setup for me in record time, and suddenly I was swiping right and left without the faintest idea that this meant matching with complete strangers. Within minutes, my inbox was full of random “hi” and “hello” messages… but then one stood out: “Hey 👋🏽 what do you call a ten-eyed spider 🕷️?!!!” I, being the clearly qualified spider scholar I am, replied, “I don’t know 🤷🏾‍♀️… you tell me, spider genius.” His answer? “A spiiiiiiiiiiiider.” It took me six months—six months after we started dating—to finally get that joke. 😅 But hey, if it weren’t for that ridiculous pun, my FB Dating experiment would’ve ended a lot sooner… and we wouldn’t be standing here today, telling you our story.
