It’s a simple and beautiful spot in the wild of Alaska. You can walk the tundra for miles, bird watch, run the rivers, fish for pike/white fish, or go hunting for beavers. We’ll have some games and events to pass the time, but mostly we’re just hoping to spend some quality time with the people we love.
Hopefully, No. We picked this weekend because it’s the perfect mix of good weather (potentially) right before the mosquitoes hatch. There’ll definitely be a few bugs, but no hungry hordes to suck you dry.
Maybe the Bigfoot… but no real worries about the bears and wolves. There’s always the chance they’ll be around, but it’s incredibly rare for us to see them around here - and big groups of people like this are super safe.
There’s an outhouse… quaint and classic. The locally accepted practice is to use “honey buckets”
It’s about an hour flight, twice a day with Alaska Airlines. There’s no roads connecting Bethel to the rest of the state, so that jet’s your only option. *Get a window seat on that flight and watch out the window… you’ll understand why*
Depending on the boat you’re in, the cabin is about an hour or two from Bethel. You travel about 30 minutes on the big Kuskokwim River, and then another hour or so up the smaller, windy Kwethluk River. The cabin is lower down on the river, way before any of the mountains and scary parts. On a 1-10 scale of Alaska challenges, it’s about a 2.
Yes! We’re inviting you because we love you, and we hope you come to see our home. Just know that there’s kind of limited activities in Bethel unless you have someone to take you out, or are willing to pay for a an air charter into the bush (which would be totally worth it!) We’d be happy for anyone to have a longer stay, just please understand we’ll have limited time and availability to cater the Alaska experience you might be hoping for during that time. A GREAT option for spending some extra time on a vacation would be to rent a car out of Anchorage and drive literally anywhere. That side of the state is incredible in a different way, and very vacation friendly.
Yes and yes! Keep in mind that we have family dogs and there will be approximately 7 dogs there already
Great question… if you know us, you know that these are the kinds of adventures that make us happy. A simple place out in the wild is where we thrive, and the fact that we can do it in a place that has years of family history and old stories is extra special. It’s also a great excuse to get lots of you out here that may not ever come otherwise. This will give you all a small glimpse into what our lives are like, and bring us all closer with a small adventure to share.
