We're getting married!

In spite of my American nationality, I was sadly in the dark about Hawaiian-themed hamburger restaurants until I haplessly walked into one such business, located in a distant corner of the maze-like, below ground shopping corridors of Tokyo station. Working behind the bar, Tsubasa was wearing an oversized Hawaiian shirt when I first met her, and although I now know she's not much of a bartender, I was instantly in love! While we wouldn't start dating until many months later, her silly outfit and cute, sociable disposition stayed with me. When we had another chance to meet, during a business trip she made with colleagues to a Teachers Conference -- coincidentally being held just blocks from where I live in Washington D.C. -- I jumped at the opportunity! The rest is, as they say, history! Admittedly, I don't remember much about the hamburger!

イアンと出会ったのは東京駅のハンバーガー屋さん。 モンゴルから帰国しアメリカの高校で働くまでの9か月、午前は日本語学校、午後はとある銀行の駐在事務所、夜はハンバーガーショップで働きながら東京ライフを満喫していました。 運命の2019年6月6日。その日はお客さんも少なく、近くで働いている友人が遊びに来てくれて、カウンターの端でおしゃべりしていると、The Americanなオーラを出した2人組の外国人男性客が入店してきました。ジム帰りなのかショートパンツに緑のTシャツを着た短髪の男性。それがイアンでした。二人の会話が英語だったのを聞いて、私が英語で注文を取ろうと声をかけると、同時にイアンが「注文いいですか」と言い、予想していなかった状況にお互い笑ってしまったのを今でも覚えています。 とーーーってもおしゃべりな友人と、その横で少し恥ずかしそうに話すイアンを見て、まじめな人だなという印象を受けました。（おしゃべりの友人のおかげでそう見えていたのは、後でわかったことです。）その時すでにミネソタ州へ行くことが決まっていたので自然と会話が盛り上がり、イアンと一緒に来ていた友人にそそのかされ連絡先を交換。何度かLineのやり取りをして、後日イアンからデートのお誘いが。提案してきたのは銀座のとんかつ屋さん。しかし、このとんかつ屋さんに2人で行くことになったのはそれから4年後のこと。。。
