Milan is a little under an hour away - and is a great destination for a day trip! Visit the cathedral, go shopping, see historic sites. Some places on our shortlist: Museums: Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Museo del Design Italiano, Pinacoteche (Roman art), Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie (where you can see da Vinci's The Last Supper), and Fondazione Prada (contemporary art museum created by Miuccia Prada), are a few of our top choices. The Duomo is a stunning Gothic cathedral at the city center. If you’re up for it, climb to the rooftop for panoramic views of the city! Right next door, shop (or window shop) the Galleria, an iconic shopping area filled with high-end boutiques. Nearby both of these is the Brera District, an artsy neighborhood with shops and cafes. On the weekends, check out the vintage vendors lining the sidewalks! Finally, explore Sempione Park and the historic Sforza Castle within it. This is the largest park in Milan, and a perfect spot for a stroll or picnic.
Lake Como is about a 30 minute drive from the wedding site, and is also a great option for a day trip! Here, explore charming towns like Bellagio (often called the "Pearl of the Lake") and Varenna, both known for their stunning lakeside views, colorful villas (such as Villa Monastreo), and quaint streets. At Villa Carlotta and Villa del Balbianello, stroll picturesque gardens and discover their beautiful art collections. For the adventurous, hiking trails like the Greenway del Lago di Como offer panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Lecco is a city about 20min driving. Here, you can spend a lovely day walking along the lakeside promenade, enjoying the mountain views, historic sites and more. Some of our recommendations: The Basilica di San Nicolò is a church known for its beautiful bell tower and intricate interiors. You can climb to the top and enjoy panoramic views of Lecco and the lake. Take a cable car from Lecco to the Piani d'Erna, which offers hiking trails suitable for all levels. Old Town, Lecco’s historic center, is filled with narrow streets, quaint shops, and delightful restaurants. Don't miss Piazza XX Settembre, though you can't go wrong with local cuisine at any of the many trattorias. Villa Manzoni, an 18th-century villa, was the home of famous writer Alessandro Manzoni, and is now a museum focusing on his life and works. For a peaceful retreat, head to Parco Bione, where you can enjoy a picnic or a walk surrounded by nature.
Monza is less than 20 minutes away, and is the site of the Italian Grand Prix!
