We can't wait to celebrate with you!

I normally take a car service from the airport in London but this particular Sunday I was on the Heathrow Express train after flying from Newark. I looked up from my phone to see a handsome man smiling at me. I smiled back and that was it. I also normally stay at the same hotel across the street from my office but for some reason it was sold out this trip, so I was booked at a brand new hotel near London Bridge. I went to check in at the hotel and one of the other people ahead of me at the check in counter turned around as I walked in – and guess who it was…..the guy from the train!! That’s when my jaw dropped and I was like whoa – out of all the thousands of hotels in London why am I running into this guy again?! Who is he?! I knew right then that I was meeting him for a reason. So I went to the bar after I checked in, hoping he would come too – he did and I invited him to join me. That’s when I learned we were also on the same flight from Newark.

I booked a last minute flight to London & got a lousy seat on the aisle behind the bathrooms. I happened to look up & noticed a pretty woman waiting in line for the bathroom (the 1st time). After landing I took my usual route to the Heathrow Express train to central London. On the platform, I again noticed the same pretty woman waiting for the same train (the 2nd time). When the train arrived, I was at the wrong spot on the platform & had to push my way back into a train car. (I swear I did not stalk her on purpose) With no seats left, I sat in the vestibule and looked up & again noticed the same pretty woman looking down at her phone sitting directly facing me (the 3rd time)! Our eyes caught each other & we exchanged a smile. As I'm checking in to the Dixon Hotel, I felt someone’s presence behind me & turned around to see the same pretty woman again (the 4th time)! Our jaws dropped when we saw each other with recognition & thought to myself, wow, 4 times in one night: same plane, train & now the same hotel! What are the odds and felt we were meant to meet! While she was checking in, I overheard her ask what time the bar is open until. So I quickly dropped my stuff off at my room & made my way down to the bar. Sure enough, there she was sitting at the first table facing the entrance. I walked over to introduce myself to Tricia. I recall asking if I could join her, but she recalls that she invited me to join her, but it doesn’t matter because we immediately connected. When I asked her about the Newark flight, she was so surprised and then we both realized we lived in the NYC metro area. Although we were both tired and had morning meetings, we ended up staying at the bar talking until it closed! I asked her out when we got back to the US and had our 1st date in NYC on March 16, 2019 & the rest is history!

We were celebrating 18 months since the day we met, with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Cecconi’s, in Dumbo on the waterfront in Brooklyn. It was a beautiful crisp night in October so after dinner we walked around. Bill got down on one knee along the waterfront and proposed and Tricia said yes!! A random couple nearby happened to notice and took some photos of the proposal on their phone, which we are so grateful to have some of that special moment captured. It was an extra special spot because it’s also near where we said “I love you” for the first time. The 10th has special meaning to us so we are excited to get married on the 10th of July, 2021!

The movie “A Star is Born” had actually been out for some time before March 2019. Even though both of us travel a lot and watch tons of movies on planes, neither of us had seen it before. Ironically we separately both watched the movie on that flight from Newark to London on March 10th. On our 3rd date, we went to Quebec City for the weekend. It was the most magical weekend for both of us, as we could tell we were falling in love. Our flight back to Newark ended up getting cancelled twice so we rented a car and drove ELEVEN hours back to NY. We were so enjoying our time together that we didn’t turn on the radio until the last 30 min of the ride, and the song "Shallow" came on the radio. It gave us both goosebumps and it’s been our song ever since.
