Kendall and Trey first crossed paths while working at the Atrium and Blue Haven Barn wedding venue in Sioux Falls. Kendall was on the floor staff, clearing plates, wiping down bar glasses, and expertly handling post-dinner spills on the dance floor. Trey had just started bartending when he noticed her across the room. In his words, she seemed entirely out of his league. His best friend, Tim, who also worked floor staff, confirmed it: Kendall had once been the Homecoming Queen at the University of Sioux Falls. Trey didn’t think he stood a chance. Meanwhile, Kendall had taken a quiet interest in him, though her version of flirting mostly involved standing nearby during slower moments or signing up for brief bar training shifts alongside him. Other staff eventually caught on and began nudging Trey to make a move. But Kendall, ever the rule-follower and a little wary of workplace romance, quickly brushed off any teasing. She wasn’t about to risk getting in trouble over a crush. Still, something kept pulling them together. After their late shifts, which often ended around 12:30 a.m., Trey would casually follow Kendall's car home. A proud rule-follower herself, Kendall always drove the speed limit, prompting Trey to send her a turtle emoji as his very first message. The next shift, he upped the joke with a grandma emoji. It was charming, and undeniably effective. Eventually, Trey worked up the nerve to ask if he could stop by after work. Those first visits were simple: him lying on the floor trying to win over her dog, Arlow. When he finally asked her out, Kendall said yes. Their first official date was at Bin 201, where they shared a few drinks before Trey dropped her off, and yes, there was a first-date kiss. The rest, as they say, is history. Kendall jokes that after that first night Trey came over, he never really left. Today, Kendall and Trey are truly best friends, always laughing, always up for an adventure, and always choosing each other. Kendall is known for her compassion and sincerity, while Trey brings thoughtfulness and warmth into every room. On May 25th, Trey proposed. Quietly and intentionally, he had saved his bartending tips in a fund labeled “KWERF” (Kendall Ward Engagement Ring Fund). He planned the perfect moment in McKennan Park, though nerves got the best of him and the only words he managed were, “Will you marry me?” For both of them, it was the best day of their lives. To celebrate their love, Kendall and Trey have chosen a destination wedding, something that reflects their values of meaningful connection, shared experience, and intentional time with the people they love most. They can’t wait to begin this new chapter surrounded by friends and family in a place that brings joy, adventure, and a little bit of magic.
