We first met in the Old Armory at Morgan State University. We became friends as George is a member of The National Society of Pershing Rifles and I am a member of The National Society of Pershing Angels. Through the years we have hung out with each other at different Pershing functions and at Morgan State University Homecoming. From the beginning George knew we were meant to be but me not so much. For 15 years George subtly chased me but one night at a cookout George was a lot more straight forward with his advances. That night things were a little different than our normal meeting. There were less people and it was a more relaxed setting. As the night came to an end and it was time to go home we all said our goodbyes. We started to talk and then met up for our first date and from there the rest is history.
On this particular Saturday, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. To our surprise the neighborhood was eerily quiet. There were no kids running around, no lawn mowers going, no cars speeding down the street, no make up, and no bump in the ends of my hair. It was just George and I and the Bright Sunshiny Day. I had no idea what George had planned. George set up his camera to record the proposal. I asked George what are you doing? He said he was getting ready to take pictures. I asked him why and he said because he wanted more pictures. I posed on the porch thinking he got the pictures but he didn't. As I walked to the car to put my stuff in, George jumped in front of me. I was like what are you doing? George got down on one knee and I was like what are you doing? George took the ring box out of his pocket and I was still like "what are you doing," this time with my head cocked to the side. George said those magical words we all know. He asked "Will You Marry Me?" It took me a couple of seconds to realize what was happening after he asked the question. I then said George Smith YES, I Will Marry You!!! What neither of us realized in the moment until after I said YES is that the ring box was upside down. We laughed in the moment and George placed the ring on my finger. Well, the video that George was trying to film only caught the right side of my body. The entire proposal was only recorded via audio.
We regret that we must postpone the ceremony and reception due to the pandemic. The ceremony and reception will be scheduled for a later date and time.
