We didn't do things the normal way, but it was all our own. It was private, and over many days, but still good.

Anniversary Zero

9:00 am

Galaxy's Edge, Disneyland
1313 Disneyland Dr, Anaheim, CA 92802

Before the documents and the pomp and circumstance, we exchanged our rings and spent the day at the exclusive employees' only preview day at Galaxy's Edge, Disneyland's Star Wars themed land, getting our first lightsabers and a tiny BB unit droid. After drinking at the cantina, flying the Millennium Falcon and facing down some stormtroopers, we left Batuu and headed to Los Angeles. We did an escape room where we had an hour to find the cure for the pandemic ravaging the world and not only finished with time to spare but solved the bonus puzzle! We ate as much Korean BBQ as we could manage. Then we spent some time at the La Brea Tar Pits, where we saw skeletons of trapped dire wolves and mammoths and countless other Ice Age animals, as well as the pits themselves. We maybe ran into a minor YouTube celebrity, or at least her very convincing doppelgänger. This will be a difficult anniversary to top, for sure.

The Legal Binding

Wed, Jun 12, 2019, 10:30 am - Thu, Jun 13, 2019, 12:00 am

Civic Center
Mountain View, CA 94041

During an unusually hot summer heat wave, we dressed in our wedding best and exchanged vows before the eyes of the law (and before the Mountain View tourism board paparazzi, who posted a photo of our ceremony on their Facebook page). Tiffany, our lovely witness, made it official. Then we had our first brunch as husband and wife (an elderly diner even asked his waitress to give us his well wishes!) and then we went back to work for the rest of the day, to the consternation of our colleagues.

The Deal

10:30 am - 2:45 pm

Who got the better deal?

Our agreement was this: Laura would change her last name if Travis would endure jumping out of a plane with her. After a few postponed attempts due to weather, we flew to 15,000 feet and fell through the air, taking in a breathtaking view of the coastline, the Santa Cruz mountains, the tops of clouds, and vibrant green farmland.

And Vogue!

Sun, Jul 7, 2019, 6:30 pm - Mon, Jul 8, 2019, 8:30 am

Since we didn't have one big event to capture for our wedding album, we hired a photographer to get some professional photos of us in San Francisco in our wedding attire. It was a foggy day, like most days in SF, and Laura was wearing 3.5" stiletto heels on rocky, sandy, uneven terrain. Both Travis and the photographer both tried to ensure Laura didn't fall and die or break something. We got some gorgeous shots around the area, and at our last location, we were standing on a fairly wide ledge. The photographer asked us to turn and face the camera, and Travis accidentally stepped backwards off the ledge, pulling them both to the ground. No one was hurt, but it turned out Laura was not the one we had to worry about.
