Spend the day or night at the Mount Princeton Hot Springs. The hot springs waters at the Resort are 100% natural. The water bubbles out of the ground at 140 degrees Fahrenheit at the source. You can purchase a day pass and soak for the day, go for the evening, or have unlimited access as an overnight guest.
Salida is home to hundreds of miles of mountain biking and hiking trails! We recommend renting a mountain bike and exploring the nearby trails the way the locals do! You can rent bikes at Subculture Cyclery, or get a shuttle up the mountain from Absolute Bikes. Hikers should check out Waterdog Lakes Trail, Hunt Lake Trail, Old Monarch Pass, or a nearby fourteener.
Salida sits at the base of the collegiate peaks, which is home to many of Colorado's most well known and easily accessible fourteeners (14,000'+ peaks). If you're feeling up for the challenge, we recommend taking the opportunity to get to the top of one of these monsters and catching a spectacular view of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Fourteeners near Salida include Shavano, Yale, Princeton, Elbert, Antero, and Huron. Please exercise extreme caution and be fully prepared with proper clothing, equipment, food, and water. Climbing mountains in Colorado can be extremely dangerous. Mountain thunderstorms are common in July & August. Thunderstorms develop quickly and are deadly to anyone above treeline. Aim to be at the trailhead by 5 am and back below treeline before noon.
