Tracy and Coogan travelled thousands of miles to meet each other. They also read hundreds of books, practiced dozens of skills, and even perfected a few recipes just to be ready for their inevitable encounter. Although each of their roads were often unclear and the anxieties momentous, when their paths finally crossed in September 2020, all that seemed unlikely and uncertain became obvious almost instantly. When they met, Tracy had already studied both locally in Buffalo and abroad in London. She took all that education and experience and became a critical part of the Buffalo Theatre community, keeping Allentown’s Theater of Youth alive during the crisis of the pandemic. Coogan, after service in the Army and subsequent work in Washington, D.C., was looking to start a new life closer to family. Their first date was at a restaurant called the 40 Thieves, and just as in the fable of Ali Baba, Tracy and Coogan discovered that the right words led to unimaginable riches. Nearly inseparable since, the two have enjoyed 5ks on Martha’s Vineyard, an impromptu trip to England, and all the simple joys of having someone to talk to during lockdowns. In the Spring of 2021 Theater of Youth announced its post-covid return with a production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Coogan saw it three times, but while the rest of the audience was enjoying the quality of the performance, he was watching the work done by Tracy behind the scenes and became convinced that life with someone who could make that kind of magic come alive was indispensable for a happy future. And so, on June 22, 2022 in a rowboat picnic on Hoyt lake, he proposed. We cannot wait to celebrate with our family and friends on May 12, 2023. It will be two lives, two stories, and two roads merging towards the happily ever after they always wanted.
