Flight

Flying into Stockholm

The largest international airport is Stockholm Arlanda, located just north of the city. It is well connected by trains, buses, taxis, with plenty of options for car rentals too. Click "view" below for more information. (select "parking & transport" in the drop-down menu for information on how to get to/from the airport). The most efficient way of getting into the city centre is by taking the Arlanda Express Train, it will have you there in only 18 minutes. A one-way ticket is 299 SEK or 399 SEK for 2 people (group discount). If you're like us though, and prefer to spend twice as long on the public transport to save a dollar ;) you can take the red public bus number 583 to Märsta Station and from there take the commuter train into Stockholm. This option takes 1 hour and a single ticket is 39 SEK (read the section on public transport below for more details). If you are travelling from within Europe you might also fly into Stockholm Skavsta, located about an hour south of Stockholm. Skavsta is also well connected by buses, taxis or public transport. The most efficient way of getting to Stockholm is perhaps by taking Flygbussarna Airport Coaches, https://www.flygbussarna.se/en/ Bromma airport is conveniently located in central Stockholm, but inconveniently very few airlines actually land there. Stockholm Västerås Airport is another small airport, also within striking distance of Stockholm, and in fact only 30 minutes from our wedding venue.

Travel Note

Getting to Schenströmska Herrgården

Driving directions: Schenströmska Herrgården is located 139km/86 miles from Stockholm. About 1 hr and 40 mins drive. Click "view" below for a link to google maps. (The time and distance are roughly the same if you are coming from Järna). Parking: There is ample parking at the venue and signs will help you find where to go upon arrival. Getting there by train: There are regional trains from both Stockholm or Södertälje Syd to Ramnäs, which is the nearest station to the venue. You will change trains once in Västerås. Go to https://www.sj.se/en/home.html#/ to book your tickets or read the section on "Regional trains in Sweden" below. The train station in Ramnäs is located 5 minutes from our venue and we will be organizing shuttles for guests from the station. Please let us know in advance if you are arriving by train! :)

Train

Public Transport in Stockholm

Stockholm is well connected by a system of buses, trains, the underground, trams, and ferries! These services are provided by the company SL, and a single ticket is valid on all modes of transport, in all directions, for 75 minutes. Ticket options with SL: -Single ticket (valid for 75 mins of unlimited travel): 39 SEK. Can be purchased through the SL app, with a green SL card, or with a debit/credit card that supports contactless payments (just tap on with your card). The green SL-card costs 20 SEK and can be purchased at most stations and some convenience stores. You can load a ticket onto it at the same places, as well as through the SL app or by using a ticket machine. -24 hour ticket, 165 SEK: worth it if you will be taking more than 4 single trips in any 24 hour period. Can be purchased in the SL app or by using the green SL card (see above). -72 hour ticket, 330 SEK: worth it if you will be taking more than 8 single trips over the course of 3 days. Purchased in the same ways as a 24-hour ticket. You only tap on when travelling with SL, you do not need to/can not tap off. For more information click "view" below.

Rental Car

Renting a car

If you are renting a car we recommend either going through Arlanda Airport's website (click "view" below), or we have also had some great luck over the years finding some good deals through Kayak.com, https://www.kayak.com/. and Economybookings.com, https://www.economybookings.com Make sure to specify if you prefer an automatic transmission as you might otherwise find yourself driving a manual. Driving in Sweden is pretty easy, here are some things that might be good to know: We drive on the right We use metric, i.e. kilometres per hour You can not turn right on red! If you are not familiar with roundabouts we suggest looking into it--the first time Mike drove through a roundabout with Tove he almost gave her a heart attack ;)

Train

Regional Trains in Sweden

Sweden's regional train system is served by SJ. These are well connected and comfortable trains, and a good option if you are travelling to Ramnäs by public transport. It is best to pre-purchase your ticket on their website (click "view" below) but tickets can also be bought on the train, however, this is a lot more expensive and might not guarantee you a seat.

Travel Note

Good to know!

Tipping in Sweden: Tipping in Sweden is not as established as in many other countries, and generally speaking, you are not expected to leave a tip. However, if you feel you received exeptional service, or if you are eating out at a nicer establishment, you may leave a small tip, 5 - 10% or rounding up to the nearest big number is customary. Sometimes a service fee will already be added to your bill. Servers do not rely on tips to make a living wage in Sweden and it is rare that anyone will be offended if you do not leave a tip. Cash is not king in Sweden! You will rarely need cash and, in fact, you will find that some places only take card. You might have some trouble paying with American Express though.
