2027 is a Holy Year (also called Año Santo or Xacobeo) in Santiago de Compostela because July 25th, the Feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday. This special alignment happens only a few times each century and has been celebrated for nearly 1,000 years. During a Holy Year, Santiago becomes very busy, drawing pilgrims and visitors from around the world to the city and cathedral. Pope Leo is also expected to visit, although the dates have not yet been announced. Due to these reasons we highly recommend booking your travel plans as soon as possible. Please see below for recommended hotel options, room block details, and travel information for getting to Santiago. There are a few different ways to get to Santiago de Compostela. Here are three that we would suggest!

Flight

Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport

Flight

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport

If you fly into the Madrid airport, you can take the train from the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor train station in Madrid to the Santiago train station (Santiago de Compostela-Daniel Castelao). The train station in Santiago is only a half mile from the suggested hotels.

Flight

Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport

If you fly into Porto, you can either rent a car and drive about 2 hours to Santiago or you can take the train. Please note, there is not a direct train line from Porto to Santiago so this will require 1 change in Vigo.

Travel Note

Hotels

You are welcome to stay at a hotel or accommodation of your choice. However, please note that wedding transportation will be provided from the bus stop belonging to the Compostela Hotel. Transportation options such as taxis or Uber can be limited late at night in Santiago. For this reason, we recommend selecting one of the suggested hotels, all of which are within walking distance of the wedding events and will make getting around significantly easier.
