We plan to visit the biggest settlement of Maroons. Jamaican Maroons were slaves that were "freed" by Spaniards during the hand over of Jamaica to the British in the 1600s. Maroons held many rebellions/wars against the British in Jamaica and eventually signed a treaty in 1700s with the Crown granting them 1500 acres of land inland between St. Elizabeth, St. James, and Trelawny. Maroon descendents still live on this land today as a separate state within the island. This is a very simplified summary. To learn more, watch link below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9-gpJykf3U
