Flight
The main airport on the island is Kefalonia International Airport (EFL), also known as Anna Pollatou Airport. For international guests, the easiest way to reach Kefalonia is to first fly into Athens International Airport (ATH). From Athens, you can take a quick one-hour flight to Kefalonia with several local airlines offering daily routes, such as Aegean Airlines or Sky Express. If you're not finding good options through Athens, you can also look for flights with a layover in a major European city that has direct flights to Kefalonia. Cities with direct routes include London, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich. This can sometimes provide more flexibility or better fares when flying from the U.S. If you're up for an adventure, you can also take a ferry from one of the mainland ports, such as Patras or Kyllini. While ferries aren’t always smooth sailing (literally and figuratively), they’re part of the Greek island-hopping charm—and you’ll be rewarded with stunning views along the way.
Rental Car
We highly recommend renting a car to fully experience Kefalonia. The island is famous for its scenic winding roads, secluded beaches, and picturesque villages, many of which are best reached by car. Rental cars are available at the airport, and it’s a good idea to book ahead, as availability can be limited, especially in the summer. Driving in Kefalonia is generally straightforward. For those visiting from the U.S., you’ll feel right at home—cars drive on the right side of the road. However, keep in mind that some roads are narrow and hilly, so take it slow and enjoy the ride!

Travel Note
Argostoli Our wedding celebrations will be near Argostoli, the island’s lively capital. If you prefer to be in the heart of the action—steps from restaurants, shops, cafés, and bars—this is the area for you! Kefalonia Grand Hotel and The Twelve Suites Collection are both great options, offering harbor views and a short walk to the main square. There are plenty of other hotel options in the area, so feel free to explore based on your preferences. Lassi Just a 7-minute drive from Argostoli, Lassi is a laid-back beach town with a more local feel. It’s perfect if you want easy access to the beach while still being close to everything. Thalassa Boutique Hotel comes highly recommended, which is walking distance to the beach and local restaurants. Traveling as a Group? If you’re coming with a group of friends or family, renting a villa is also a great option. Kefalonia has some beautiful ones, many set overlooking the Ionian Sea—perfect for soaking in those views. No matter where you decide to stay, we’re sure you’ll love exploring Kefalonia and enjoying everything it has to offer!
