Our Story

est. July 2018

Once upon a time, there was a silly little dating app called Tinder. The year was 2018, and Tom and Taylor both found themselves scrolling when they happened to come across one another. Tom swooned over Taylor’s blonde hair and stunning smile, and Taylor was just happy to see someone who didn’t give off murder vibes. Naturally, they both swiped right. Before long, they were talking nonstop—sharing stories about their hobbies (Tom: golf and the Lions; Taylor: reality TV and dance), favorite foods (Tom: ice cream; Taylor: sushi), and travels (Tom: annual baseball and golf trips; Taylor: anywhere with a beach and a margarita). Eventually, Tom decided it was time to take things offline and asked Taylor on a date. Living about an hour apart, they agreed to meet in the middle at a Royal Oak classic: HopCat, on July 3, 2018. Over tacos, burgers, and world-famous crack fries, the drinks flowed, the conversation thrived, and not a dull moment was had. After dinner, they went their separate ways—or so they thought. Someone (not naming names, but it starts with a “T”) couldn’t find their car. A call was made, help arrived, and after an unexpected parking lot adventure—yes, on their first date—they decided they deserved one more drink. The night officially wrapped up at O’Toole’s with one last beer, a few more laughs, and final conversations that made it clear this wouldn’t be their last date. From that night on, Tom and Taylor spent the rest of the summer, fall, and winter going on dinner dates, movie dates, chill nights in, and everything in between. Things were casual, easy, and perfect for their very busy—and very opposite—schedules. Tom worked a 9–5 finance job in Ann Arbor, while Taylor served at restaurant nights and weekends in Rochester. Tuesday nights were Taylor’s one consistent night off, quickly becoming known as “Taylor Tuesdays,” aka date night. Despite many snowy drives back to Ann Arbor, Tom still insists it was always worth it. Finally, on March 18, 2019—slightly hungover from St. Patrick’s Day festivities—Tom made it official and asked Taylor to be his girlfriend. Perhaps it was the green beer that made him realize she was the one. Around the same time, Taylor left the restaurant world and started her corporate career, allowing them to spend even more time together. They traveled all over Northern Michigan, then out of state and overseas, blending their families and friends into one big life. They even survived living in a one-bedroom apartment during COVID and only fought once—proof they were ready for whatever came next. On March 18, 2022, Tom and Taylor took another leap and moved to Detroit. They found a one-bedroom loft overlooking Woodward Avenue and the Hudson’s building, and the city quickly became home. From walkable food, shopping, concerts, and sporting events to parades, fireworks, and even the NFL Draft right outside their window, Apt. 1001 has been the backdrop for countless memories with family and friends. As much as they love city life, a beach trip for some vitamin D and a margarita is always welcome. On July 7, 2025, during a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, they made their best memory yet. With cocktails on the beach at sunset before a cliffside dinner overlooking the ocean, Tom got down on one knee and asked Taylor to marry him. She immediately said yes—and hasn’t been able to form a complete thought since. They celebrated by calling their families, enjoying a beautiful dinner (though very little food was eaten), and spending the rest of the trip wrapped up in their love bubble, dreaming about what was next. And that brings us to today—over seven years later. Two best friends turned partners. Six future siblings gaining new best friends. Four very excited parents ready for grandkids. And so many family members and friends gathered to celebrate the love of Tom and Taylor, and the people who helped show them what it truly means to love and be loved. We can’t wait to celebrate you! — T & T 🖤
