The “Oh, Be Joyful” Lodge sits on Peak 8 above downtown Breckenridge with beautiful views of Peaks 6 and 7. Construction of the lodge began in 2012 under the guidance of Gene and Therese Dayton. It was carefully built using almost 90% recycled materials. It uses indigenous wood from the area including spruce trees that were felled to make room for the Breckenridge Ski Area gondola and and incorporates locally harvested Pine Beetle killed wood. All the logs, including the huge Spruce and Douglas Fir log posts, were milled and lathed locally by the Dayton’s with the peeling and staining done by hand. The lodge is still owned and operated by the Dayton family and we are excited to get married in a place that feels like home.
Lauren Lichtenthal & Joy Haskell have been my friends since our days at Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Georgia Tech. We all found our way to denver over the past 10 years and have enjoyed growing our friendship in the mountains and meeting our significant others. We have bonded over cooking and hiking and have had the pleasure to support each others weddings by providing the desserts. For Joy I made a "cake pop" cake, and Lauren made the cutting cake. For Lauren's wedding I provided cake bars and sweets and Joy made a cutting cake. And now for my wedding they will be able to return the favor and provide sweets for my our big day!
Julia is designing our wedding stationery all based on mountain adventures and the great outdoors. Originally from Maryland, Julia has lived in the Colorado high country for 14 years, Breckenridge in fact! She loves to mountain bike, hike, ski, and SUP, and frequently adventure travels (sometimes running her business from the road for several months out of the year). She is married to Brian, a paramedic and outdoor guide turned college professor and author. They have worked with us to design custom invitations, thank yous and more. We love highlighting our favorite activities, TJ's beloved smoker, and of course, our pup Copper! Look out for more fun personalized designs.
Anyone who knows TJ knows he loves ice cream....no matter how cold it is outside. When TJ first moved to Denver for paramedic school in 2013 he quickly found the best ice cream in town, Little Man's Ice Cream. On our their first date in Denver TJ took Chelsea to try his new favorite "Salted Oreo" ice cream. That ice cream has become our family favorite ever since. We are so excited to share their amazing ice cream with everyone as night time dessert at the wedding!
Good food is incredibly important to us. After trying several BBQ places in Denver and Breckenridge we finally met Eric at Smokin Yards BBQ. Even though he is getting married the weekend before us, him and his wife have graciously agreed to cater our wedding. They not only have some of the best BBQ in town but their legendary sides of smoked baked beans, country style mac'n'cheese (Chelsea approved), and cole slaw will have you going back for seconds guaranteed! Come hungry we plan on ordering enough for a feast.
As most of you know we met as backpacking guides at Philmont Scout Ranch. We spent some of our favorite summers at Philmont and met some our best friends in the process. Disconnected from technology and the outside world Philmont holds such a special place in our hearts and we have worked to include small details that remind us of HOmE (Heaven On Earth). From table names, to the bar and our dinner prayer Philmont will have a place on our wedding day!
