How I met Faustine

as told by the groom

It was a hot summer night in late August when we met by chance in a local neighborhood wine bar. I walked into an almost empty bar and the only person inside was Faustine. We sat several seats away from each other and minded our own business, trying to play it cool. We attempted to ignore each other’s glances but Faustine broke the ice and asked me to watch her purse while she went to the lady’s room. She returned, happy to see her purse was not stolen. Soon we were chatting and laughing like we had known each other forever. Who would trust a complete stranger in a big city to watch her purse? I knew right away that she was something special. From that day on we have continued to build on that trust and that faith. The rest is history, to this day I still have to hold Faustine’s purse

Dave proposed like...

as told by the bride

...he was exhausted. To be fair, I tend to put Dave on extreme/hectic adventures. After touring all of Singapore in one day we escaped my family and ended up at a rooftop bar, drinking the exhaustion off while we watched the light show coming from Marina Bay. He suggested having our photo taken by the bay, so I stood by the railing while he asked someone to take our photo. To my surprise and everyone around us, Dave knelt down and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. I nodded yes. Our only photo of the proposal ended up underexposed and we got fantastically lost on our way back, it was very on-brand of us. I'm so excited to build our future and have more asinine adventures together.

JoAn

Maid of Honor

JoAn, my life definitely changed when she came around. Having been the only child for 7 years, my sense of purpose and responsibilities changed the moment our mother flat out rejected my suggestion of naming her, Mariah. She's actually named after our grandfathers. Jose and Andres, hence JoAn. Although our age difference did not make us fast friends, the constant reminder from our parents that there is ONLY THE TWO OF US as sisters made us into incredibly close friends. Some say BFFs but she will cringe hard if I mention it. Besides, she knows all my secrets because she somehow found all my journals and read them all. So I have nothing to hide from her. Over the years JoAn served as my close confidant, therapist, emotional translator, and just overall beacon of good vibes. That's why I am so proud to have her as my maid of honor.

Sophie

Bridesmaid

Sophie was my first friend when I moved to the US. I mean she has to be because she's my cousin after all. All my cherished girlhood memories always have her in them, even the really embarrassing ones. (If you see her, ask her about the time I ran into a window) Growing up, I remember Sophie being my main source of laughter and we have gotten into some pretty epic fights over which doll gets what outfit. Creative, passionate, incredibly charitable, and kind, Sophie is one of the best people out there. If the world is more like Sophie, it would be such a better place. Fun fact about this girl, she was crowned Van's Warp-Tour Queen and I like to think I help her get that crown.

Laura

Bridesmaid

Laura was and still is the coolest girl I ever met as a freshman in college. It was all thanks to her awesome and incredibly tall husband, Nate (then boyfriend), who introduced us. I wouldn't have gotten into any FUN parties and my first retail job without her. Humble to a fault, Laura probably doesn't realize how much I look up to her. I watched her grow into a caring mother of little Jude and a bad-ass civil engineer. To this day she feels like the wind beneath my awkward wings.

Jillian

Bridesmaid

Jillian will forever be the Ann Perkins to my Leslie Knope, we started out working the night-shift logging footage for the Real World and managed to navigate through the craziness of living in LA as we work on our careers. She is the calm to my storm and always manages to ground me with her positivity. Also, this girl makes a mean Old Fashioned. If you see her, ask her about it.
