Tina’s perspective I was actually friends with Rafael’s sister, Gabi, for a few months before I even knew he existed. Then one day, totally out of the blue, she casually mentioned her brother. I said, “Wait… you have a Brazilian brother? Let me see a picture of him.” When she showed me his Instagram, I immediately said, “Your brother is cuuuuute 😏.” Still, I didn’t meet Rafa until about a month later, in December. I was going out with Gabi for New Year’s Eve, and when I arrived at her house, Rafa was in the shower—blasting Careless Whisper of all things. I couldn’t stop laughing. I hadn’t even seen him yet, but somehow, I already felt like I knew him. Then I went to use the bathroom, and right as I walked by, Rafa stepped out—dripping wet, in a white towel, with his hair still wet. We made eye contact and nervously laughed. And in that one look, something clicked. I felt a spark, and this strange, immediate comfort that stayed with me. Later, while getting ready, I noticed Gabi had a guitar. I picked it up to play the one song I know—definitely trying to show off a little—and Rafa instantly gave me his full attention. He asked me so many questions, like “Do you play guitar?” and wanted to know everything about me. Before we left for our separate New Year’s plans, Rafa poured wine for everyone. He was so thoughtful and kind, making sure everyone felt included. He gave a toast to the new year, and I remember thinking how effortlessly charming and handsome he was. In that moment, surrounded by laughter and wine, it already felt like we were a little family.
