Yep. We took a trip to Portland in 2021 and fell in love. Turns out Maine is kinda perfect. Then we discovered the most idyllic island off the coast called Chebeague Island (pronounced "Sha beeg" or "Sha big"). It's the kind of place that makes you forget you have 149,157 unread emails. Where you can have a cocktail on a porch overlooking the ocean, fall asleep to the sound of waves... Sorry what was your question?
We recommend traveling on or before Friday, June 2. On Saturday, plan to arrive at the inn 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. The island pace is slow, give yourself time to embrace and enjoy it.
We'll update this as we get closer to the wedding.
The wedding will be outdoors and much of it on grass.
Usually high 60s, but it can get pretty chilly on the island so bring a layer.
About 15 minutes from Yarmouth/Cousins Island or 60–90 from Portland.
The Inn has a Sprinter we’ll have at our disposal. They can pick guests up from the docks, bring you to your lodging, and provide transportation for all official wedding events—just make sure we know where you’re staying in advance! For all other island activities, Chebeague is pretty small! Much of the island is walkable and many of the rental homes come with bikes or vehicles. Golf carts can also be rented separately for island transportation.
Doughty's Island Market is your one-stop shop for coffee, booze and essential groceries. Two Birds Café is a wonderful new spot for breakfast, lunch or coffee. And the Inn's restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also buy groceries and booze on the mainland and bring them over on the ferry, as the locals often do.
The wedding party will be occupying the full inn, so you won't be able to book a room. But because we have the whole place, you can treat it as your home base. Come by for drinks on the porch or lawn games by the water.
It's not worth the trouble (or cost) for a weekend. Leave your car at the Chebeague satellite parking lot and take the ferry out of Yarmouth.
You have a boat?!
The ferry from Yarmouth brings you right to the base of the inn (Stone Pier). It's a short walk and you can't miss it, but a van is available if needed. If you plan to take the ferry from Portland, let us know in advance so we can arrange to have you picked up. The Portland dock (Chandler Cove) is on the other side of the island.
10:30pm. However, for guests wanting to stay a little later, we've arranged for a light-night charter to depart at 11:30pm on Saturday. You do not need to reserve a spot in advance.
If you're taking the regular Ferry from Yarmouth, a free shuttle bus will bring you back to the Chebeague satellite parking lot. If you're taking the 11:30 late-night boat, you'll have to take an Uber or taxi from the dock. The boat will hang out in Yarmouth for a bit, so you're welcome to stay on board until your Uber arrives. There's also a local taxi number on the Travel page you can call.
There are several water taxi services in the area. These can fit up to six passengers for about $150 total. You can book a group ride ahead of time if you want to travel outside of ferry/boat hours. Check out Fogg's Water Taxi in Portland.
If you made it this far, you must really love us. We are beyond excited to celebrate with you all. Chebeague Island is a magical place and we can't wait to fill it with the people we love most in this world. We hope to see you there!
