Getting to Siena

From Florence: The easiest way to get to Siena is by bus. It’s fast, clean, comfortable, and drops you off in front of the NH Hotel, which is a 4 min walk from the Hotel Chiusarelli. The Buses run very frequently, just need to make sure you get on the express bus (131R “Rapida”) and not the local bus (131O “ordinaria”). The bus station is directly across the street from the train station in Florence, and you can purchase tickets at the bus station ticket office. Taking the train from Florence to Siena is a perfectly fine option, but we don’t recommend it because you get dropped off at the bottom of Siena. We purposely tested this out in October when we were there, to see what the experience would be like. First, upon arrival, there were no taxis and a long line of people waiting for a taxi. Second, should you decide to walk into town, it’s about a 25 min walk to the NH Hotel. The first part thankfully is covered by a network of escalators that take you up to the city gates. Once you get there, it’s still a bit of a walk into the city and to the NH Hotel. From Rome: Best option is to take the train from Termini Station. You'll need to transfer trains in either Chiusi or Florence. If you are coming directly from Rome Fiumicino Airport, there is a direct bus to Siena, that also drops you off in front of the NH Hotel. The bus departs daily at 10:45AM and 7:30PM from the bus station at Arrivals Terminal 3, Stall 10. The return bus leaves from the NH Hotel in Siena at 6:25AM and 3:25PM and arrives at the Rome airport at 9:30AM and 6:30PM. Tickets can be purchased online, or on the bus if there is room available. Just make sure to build in time for potential flight delays and customs. From Milan: Bullet train to Florence, and then either transfer to the bus, or transfer to the train to Siena. There is a bus option but its over 5 hours long, compared to a quick 2.5 hour train to Florence and then either a 75 min bus or 90 train to Siena.

If you haven't booked a hotel yet, the NH Hotel is going to be your best bet. If you decide to book an AirBnB in lieu of a hotel, please ensure its in the city center. All activities will be in Siena, all walkable from the main hotels. There should be no need for a rental car while you are in Siena for the wedding (unless you are planning to do an excursion into the countryside on your own).
